This is one of 250 key projects nationwide that were started and inaugurated simultaneously across the country to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2. Groundbreaking ceremony of Ca Mau Airport expansion and upgrade project.
Ca Mau Airport is a domestic airport with an important strategic position in terms of national defense and security; at the same time, it plays the role of an air traffic gateway connecting the southernmost part of the country with the economic and political centers of the whole country. However, after a long period of operation, the existing infrastructure of Ca Mau Airport is small in scale, only meeting the exploitation of low-altitude aircraft, short-haul flights, not meeting the increasingly high development requirements of transportation, economy, tourism, national defense and security of Ca Mau province and the region.
The investment in expanding and upgrading Ca Mau Airport not only meets the urgent needs of civil aviation exploitation, but is also an important factor in ensuring national defense and security, contributing to socio -economic development, promoting tourism and attracting investment for the Mekong Delta region.
With the goal of expanding and upgrading Ca Mau Airport to ensure the exploitation of modern aircraft such as A320, A321 and equivalent, the project was assigned to ACV as the investor, implemented with the Corporation's capital with a total investment of about 2,400 billion VND.
This is a level I aviation traffic project with a scale including main items such as: Construction of a runway measuring 2,400m x 45m, cement concrete pavement structure ensuring the operation of A320/A321 aircraft and equivalent; renovation and expansion of the existing terminal, increasing the capacity to 500,000 domestic passengers/year, which can be expanded to 1 million passengers/year when needed; construction of synchronous auxiliary items: road connecting the passenger terminal and the aircraft parking lot; patrol road; fence system and security cameras, fence lighting.

The project to expand and upgrade Ca Mau Airport, when completed, will help Ca Mau Airport improve its operational efficiency, meet new technical standards, and better serve the needs of socio-economic development and national defense and security in the region. During the construction period, Ca Mau Airport is expected to close for 12 months (from November 1, 2025 to October 31, 2026), and be completed and put into operation in October 2026.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Chi Nguyen requested relevant departments, branches and sectors; Tan Thanh Ward People's Committee to continue to closely coordinate with ACV, construction units, and consulting units to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles within the province's authority and responsibility; ACV should pay attention to directing construction contractors, speeding up the progress of completing the project according to the set plan; at the same time, closely coordinate with the province's functional agencies to promptly remove difficulties and obstacles, if any. The Provincial People's Committee commits to creating the most favorable conditions for the project to be implemented on schedule, ensuring safety and the highest efficiency.
On this occasion, ACV leaders presented gifts to 10 typical households contributing to the handover of land to support the implementation of the Ca Mau Airport expansion and upgrade project.
