Launching the project “Integrated approach to promote sustainable employment for youth in the agricultural sector”

On November 25, in Can Tho City, the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized a workshop to launch the project "Integrated approach to promoting sustainable employment for youth in the agricultural sector".

Representatives of central ministries, functional agencies, development cooperation organizations, non-governmental organizations, a number of universities and research institutes; representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Department of Home Affairs, the Women's Union, the Youth Union, businesses, outstanding youth in rice-related startups and local authorities where the project is implemented... attended the workshop. The workshop aims to introduce the project to relevant parties, create common understanding, coordinate directions and determine implementation steps in the coming time. This is also an opportunity for agencies, organizations, experts and localities to exchange information, share experiences, connect and cooperate to maximize the impact of the project in practice...

According to the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment, creating sustainable employment opportunities for rural youth in the rice value chain in the Mekong Delta not only helps young workers increase their income and stabilize their livelihoods, but also contributes to increasing the value and quality of the rice value chain, making a practical contribution to the effective implementation of "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030". Stemming from that meaning, within the framework of cooperation between the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment and FAO, the project "Integrated approach to promoting sustainable employment for youth in the agricultural sector" will be implemented in the period 2025-2027 in Can Tho city, An Giang province and Ca Mau province.

At the workshop, delegates said that rice is a strategic commodity with a stable supply and increasing quality. Vietnam is one of the world's leading rice exporters, with an established reputation and brand. Support from the Government and international organizations, along with the increasing demand for high-quality, low-emission rice, has created many models of integrated farming and non-agricultural employment, creating new job opportunities for young people. Since then, entrepreneurship and youth participation in agriculture have been increasingly promoted. In addition, agricultural production also has many opportunities for young people, such as: many jobs across the rice value chain, especially non-agricultural services and mechanization; new markets and increasing demand for sustainable production practices; developing digital marketing and e-commerce channels, supporting rice branding; rice by-products creating new business opportunities (straw rolls, biofertilizers, mushrooms, etc.); Building brands, packaging, marketing to enhance the value of Vietnamese rice in the global market...
