The illegal sturgeon transportation case was discovered at the end of 2023. Specifically, at around 8:00 p.m. on November 22, 2023, the Economic Police Department (Gia Lai Provincial Police) coordinated with Pleiku City Police to inspect and discover Trinh Van Kien (57 years old, residing in Nga Son District, Thanh Hoa) driving a tractor truck with license plate 60C-300.45 transporting 5.5 tons of sturgeon on National Highway 14, through Bruk Ngol village, Yen The Ward, Pleiku City.

On the car were Nguyen The Long (36 years old, in Tam Phuoc Ward, Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai, the car owner) and Dam Van Hung (38 years old, in Quang Hoa District, Cao Bang , the fish caretaker).
These people confessed to having transported 5.5 tons of sturgeon without documents proving its origin from Laos to Vietnam through Bo Y International Border Gate ( Kon Tum ) for a man named Do Trong Phuong (38 years old, in My Dinh 2 Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi).
On November 30, 2023, Gia Lai Provincial Police initiated a case and prosecuted 3 defendants: Trinh Van Kien, Nguyen The Long and Dam Van Hung for illegally transporting goods across the border.
On December 5, 2023, Do Trong Phuong turned himself in, admitting to his crime of hiring Trinh Van Kien, Nguyen The Long and Dam Van Hung to transport 5.5 tons of sturgeon without legal documents. Gia Lai Provincial Police then prosecuted Do Trong Phuong for illegally transporting goods across the border.
The case of illegal sturgeon transportation through the above border gate is being further investigated by Gia Lai Provincial Police.
