Prosecution of sugar smugglers

Accordingly, the defendants were prosecuted and ordered to be detained, including: Tran Duc Hao (born in 2006); Tran Minh Phuoc (born in 2002); Nguyen Van Long (born in 1981) for the crimes of "Smuggling" and "Transporting prohibited goods"; Tong Thi My Linh (born in 1979); Nguyen Thanh Quan (born in 1994) and Vo Van Quoc (born in 1992) for the crimes of "Smuggling" and an order prohibiting Ho Duc Loi (born in 1999) from leaving his place of residence to continue investigating the crime of "Smuggling". The defendants all reside in Tinh Bien ward (Tinh Bien town).

Previously, at around 9:00 p.m. on April 19, 2025, the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Provincial Police coordinated with relevant units to catch Phuoc and Hao red-handed using a container to transport 2,000 packs of 555, Hero and Jet brand cigarettes from Cambodia to Vietnam.

Through investigation and investigation, it was determined that on April 18, 2025, Quan contacted Linh to buy 200 bags of sugar (each bag weighs 50kg) and Linh agreed. At this time, Linh contacted a Cambodian to buy 200 bags, and when they arrived at the Cambodia - Vietnam border, she informed Linh. Then, Linh informed Quan of the license plate number of the truck carrying the sugar that Quan bought from Linh, then Quan hired Phuoc, Hao, Quoc, and Long to use a small boat to transport 200 bags of sugar to Vietnam.

To avoid detection and arrest by the authorities, Long hired Loi to guard the road for this smuggling ring. In addition to transporting sugar, Phuoc and Hao also transported 2,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes for Long from Cambodia to Vietnam when they were caught red-handed.

Currently, the case is being further investigated and clarified by the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Provincial Police.
