The investigation agency of the Supreme People's Procuracy has decided to prosecute Mr. Pham Tan Hoang - former Deputy Chief Justice of the High People's Court in Da Nang (now the Supreme People's Court of Appeal in Da Nang) for the crime of "Receiving bribes", according to Clause 2, Article 354 of the Penal Code.
Previously, on July 17, 2025, Mr. Pham Tan Hoang proactively went to the Supreme People's Procuracy's Investigation Agency to surrender, admitting that he had received 140 million VND in bribes to influence the appeal trial, helping defendant Tran Hoang Dan (charged with "Murder") reduce his sentence by 1.5 years in prison. Mr. Hoang also voluntarily returned all the money he had received.
In addition, the Investigation Agency also determined that Mr. Hoang had received bribes to influence the final judgment in favor of a litigant in the civil lawsuit "Deposit contract dispute" that occurred in Quang Tri province.
With this prosecution decision, Mr. Pham Tan Hoang is the 27th person to be prosecuted in connection with the case of "Giving bribes", "Brokering bribes" and "Receiving bribes" occurring at the High People's Court (now the Supreme People's Court of Appeal) in Da Nang .
The case is being directly monitored and directed by the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negativity.
Previously, the Supreme People's Procuracy also prosecuted Pham Viet Cuong - former Deputy Chief Justice of the High People's Court in Da Nang for "Receiving bribes", along with 25 other defendants including: Judges, Prosecutors, Enforcement Officers, Court Clerks and Lawyers.
Initial investigation results show that the defendants took advantage of their positions and powers, connected with litigants, defendants or relatives, acted as intermediaries to approach competent authorities to resolve the case, thereby interfering with the trial results in a way that was beneficial to the bribe-giving party - regardless of whether the case was criminal, civil, economic or commercial.
The case is being further investigated and held accountable by the individuals involved.
