In previous seasons, teams played a double round-robin format before the final round to determine the champion and relegation. Starting this season, the tournament will be played in a single round, divided into two stages. Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), stated that the new format will result in fewer matches, higher competitiveness, and minimize the possibility of teams conceding points.
The actual competition showed that teams with good investment, high-performing players, and high concentration in each match achieved commensurate results. The Signal Corps team, although ranked first in the first phase, did not perform well in the second half and dropped out of the top 4, losing their ticket to the semi-finals. Many matches between teams competing for a top 4 spot were dramatic, with teams vying for every point, providing a thrilling viewing experience.
Bich Tuyen (10) and defending champion LPBank Ninh Binh almost dropped out of the top 4 due to fierce competition in the national championship.
The Long Son Thanh Hoa Cement team exploded in the second half of the season after recruiting a top-class foreign player from China, Liu Yanhan, and showed great teamwork, even though their domestic players weren't yet on par with the Information Corps team. Finishing second in the group stage after the second phase and securing a place in the semi-finals was a well-deserved achievement for Thanh Hoa, and they continue to harbor hopes of reaching the final. The VTV Binh Dien Long An team, although without Tran Thi Thanh Thuy who is playing abroad in Turkey, managed to recall veteran hitters like Ngoc Hoa and Kim Thanh. This team also boasts a talented German-French foreign player, Joyce Agbolossou, alongside the high-performing young talent Tra My. Their training camp in Japan before the tournament helped Long An overcome their defensive weaknesses, and they demonstrated their progress by finishing first in the standings.
The wealthy Duc Giang Chemical team also demonstrated the effectiveness of their investment by maintaining their form. Meanwhile, the defending champions LPBank Ninh Binh , although not in top form, saw Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen's resilience help them escape elimination in a spectacular fashion, securing the last ticket to the semi-finals.
Tomorrow (November 15th) will see the semi-finals of the 2024 National Women's Volleyball Championship with two evenly matched games. In the first semi-final, VTV Binh Dien Long An Club (ranked 1st in the qualifying round) will face LPBank Ninh Binh Club (ranked 4th). The other semi-final will be between Long Son Thanh Hoa Cement Club (ranked 2nd) and Duc Giang Chemical Club (ranked 3rd).
Besides the championship race, the relegation battle between the four teams Hanoi, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and Vietinbank is also extremely intense, with each match considered a final. The two teams with the worst performance will be relegated. From the 2025 season onwards, the national women's volleyball championship will be even better with only 8 teams instead of the current 9. Previously, Ho Chi Minh City Club won the A-League championship and secured the only spot to play in the 2025 national championship.
