Ms. Thuy Loan (middle), Principal of Vang Anh Kindergarten, District 5, studies with the children.
As she walked, Ms. Thuy Loan recounted a memorable incident not long ago. One afternoon, a stranger was standing in front of a classroom. She wanted to pick up baby A. She even read the baby's name at home and said "your mother is busy, please let me pick her up". The kindergarten teacher in charge of that class did not return the child, asked the parent not to enter the classroom and immediately called the baby's mother to check. The baby's mother panicked and said "no, I did not ask anyone to pick up my child for me". The stranger quickly ran away.
Ms. Loan shared: "The intuition of preschool teachers and the ability to remember the faces of parents who pick up and drop off their children every day are always present in every person who works in childcare. That is extremely necessary to ensure the top safety for children."
Grew up from my mother's baking oven
Ms. Lam Thi Thuy Loan was born and raised in Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City. Her father was a war invalid and her mother made rice paper to dry in the dew. Since childhood, on days when the city was as hot as a frying pan, little Thuy Loan and her younger sister would sit for hours in the oven making rice paper for their mother.
Growing up, Ms. Loan wanted to become a police officer but her height did not allow it. Based on her uncle's advice, she applied to the Ho Chi Minh City Preschool Teacher Training High School. "I lived in a dormitory and visited home once every weekend. To go to school, I had to take the bus and the taxi. I accidentally chose to be a preschool teacher, but the more I worked, the more I loved and attached to children. I have been working with preschool children for 25 years now," Ms. Thuy Loan recalled.

In 1998, fresh out of school, Ms. Loan was assigned to teach at Kindergarten 25, now Hoa Mi Kindergarten 3, Ward 3, District 5. The young teacher at that time still remembers a very crowded class, about 45 children only 3 years old (back then there was no nursery class, children only went to kindergarten at 3 years old).
"Each class has 2 teachers in charge. That day, the other teacher had to go to a meeting, so I was the only one managing the class. I was struggling with 45 new children, some crying, some telling on the teacher, some running after her to ask her to hold them, some fighting loudly. For the first time, I felt helpless and extremely sad because I didn't know what to do," Ms. Thuy Loan recalled.
The initial difficulties have passed. That challenging time helped the teacher learn a lot of things to gain experience in taking care of and teaching children better.
Being dynamic, Ms. Thuy Loan was the Secretary of the school's Youth Union for many years and participated in the Trade Union activities. During 12 years and 5 months working at her first school, the teacher said that those were always the beautiful years in her career journey.

At that time, learning tools and toys for preschool children were not as readily available as they are now, and were mainly made by teachers themselves. There were days when teachers had to sit from morning till night to decorate the classroom and make learning tools for children with recycled materials.
"This job allows me to grow up with children. Seeing the children go from being unfamiliar with school to becoming confident children who love school and grow up every day is a spiritual encouragement for us to love our job more. The first children I taught are now 22 years old. The happiest thing was that one day I accidentally met their parents again. The parents boasted that their children had now graduated from university, some had become lawyers, and some were studying to be doctors," the teacher happily said.
Each child has different abilities.
During her working time, she taught during the day and persistently studied extra in the evenings and on weekends.
In 2011, she graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education and got a master's degreein educational management from Saigon University and was appointed as Vice Principal of Kindergarten 10 (Ward 10, District 5). Four years later, she became Principal of Tuong Lai Specialized School, District 5.

Before becoming the Principal of Vang Anh Kindergarten, District 5 in December 2022, the passionate teacher also spent 4 years as the Principal of Kindergarten 1 (Ward 1, District 5).
"Each school gives me the opportunity to work with children with different abilities, qualities, circumstances, and stories. There are very smart and talented children. And many children studying in specialized schools are physically and mentally disadvantaged. These are the children who need the most love and care. I am very touched and grateful to my colleagues, teachers, and nannies who have dedicated themselves to helping them progress little by little," the teacher confided.
For many years, on holidays and anniversaries, Ms. Thuy Loan and many philanthropists have returned to visit Tuong Lai Special School, giving gifts and encouraging the children.
A teacher with 25 years of experience in the profession always believes that each preschool child has different abilities and circumstances. Those who take care of and raise children need to love children and be patient. When they understand the psychology of children and are tolerant, they should choose the profession and stick with it. If not, choose another profession. Teachers who are often angry, hot-tempered, and cannot be patient with naive and immature questions will put children in danger and at great disadvantage.
At the same time, caregivers and educators need to care for and love children fairly, not letting anyone get hurt.
The Principal of Vang Anh Kindergarten, District 5 plays with children.
"Some teachers and nannies often have the mentality of liking to hug and carry white, chubby babies. Children are very sensitive. The remaining babies will be hurt with the thought 'why does the teacher only love other children and not me?'", the teacher worried.
Ms. Thuy Loan has many times won the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level, Emulation Fighter at the city level; won the District 5 Teachers' Tradition Award, Commemorative Medal for the cause of education...
