The Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ninh province has issued Notice 1091/SCT-XNT of the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ninh province to the Department of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities regarding China's announcement of import control policy on Vietnamese watermelons.
Specifically, all growing areas and packaging facilities for fresh watermelon exported to China must be registered and granted codes by both the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China.
The garden must apply good agricultural practices (GAP) and must ensure garden supervision and packaging process supervision.
Packing facilities must establish a traceability system to ensure that fresh watermelons exported to China can be traced back to the growing area that has been assigned a code.
Vietnamese watermelon shipments are exported through all border gates licensed by the General Administration of Customs of China to import fresh fruit.
At the same time, fresh watermelons from Vietnam exported to China must not be infected with 5 live plant quarantine objects. These include 3 types of fruit flies, 1 type of aphid and 1 type of bacteria.
The Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ninh province said that the above information has been announced by the Chinese agency and is effective at the present time; the Department requested the Department of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities to proactively propagate to people and enterprises exporting and importing agricultural products, especially watermelon exports, to grasp the regulations on quarantine standards and inspection and control of Vietnamese watermelon products, to avoid risks.
Ms. Tran Bich Ngoc, Head of Mong Cai Border Gate Management Board (Quang Ninh) said that from the beginning of the year to April 21, the total volume of imported and exported goods through the border gate reached 407,869 tons, down 9.3% over the same period in 2023.
Specifically, at Bac Luan Bridge 2 Border Gate, there were 18,130 vehicles entering and exiting the country, an increase of 53% over the same period in 2023, an average of 181 vehicles/day. Import and export goods reached 181,471 tons, an increase of 44% over the same period in 2023, an average of 2,815 tons of import and export goods/day.
At the Km 3+4 Hai Yen opening, export goods reached 9,126 vehicles carrying 117,961 tons of goods (an average of 89 vehicles/day, 1,156 tons/day), down 49.6% over the same period in 2023; of which, fruits were 2,116 vehicles with 53,688 tons; cassava flour 130 vehicles, 5,084 tons; frozen seafood 1,682 vehicles, 40,996 tons; dried seeds and other goods.
In 2024, the total import-export turnover of goods reached 953.49 million USD, an increase of 27.07% over the same period in 2023.
