Agricultural extension paves the way for transformation of production thinking

In recent times, the Department of Agriculture of Tay Ninh province has implemented many activities to support farmers such as disseminating advanced farming techniques, transferring technology, and building demonstration models suitable for local conditions. These efforts not only contribute to promoting the shift in agricultural production structure but also help farmers change their thinking and production practices, gradually improving their income and living standards.

In the first 6 months of 2025, the Provincial Center for Agricultural Extension and Services (KN&DVNN) implemented many agricultural extension models in the fields of cultivation, livestock and aquaculture such as organic rice production, intensive durian cultivation, medicinal plant production, yellow catfish farming, etc.

In addition, the Center also coordinates the implementation of the Central Agricultural Extension Project to build a new cassava variety model associated with a consumption factory in Tay Ninh province in the period of 2023-2025 with a scale of 35 hectares.

The provincial Agricultural Extension and Agricultural Services Center visited the experimental rice field of Ha Phat 3 variety.

At the same time, the Center has also promoted training and coaching with 19 IPM (integrated pest management) classes, 5 experiential learning classes, and 6 provincial-level seminars. In order for farmers to access new technical advances, the Provincial Center for Agricultural Science and Technology has implemented many models such as organic leafy vegetable production, certified rice seed production, etc. In particular, the model of raising broiler chickens supplemented with secondary EM products in the direction of biosafety and the model of organic farming on custard apples and green-skinned grapefruit according to TCVN 11041:2017 standards are highly appreciated for their sustainability.

Faced with the erratic weather and the potential risk of disease outbreaks in crops and livestock, the provincial Center for Agricultural and Rural Development focuses on disease prevention. Dozens of training courses on disease prevention in shrimp, fish, livestock and poultry have been organized. Biosafety models of raising ducks, chickens, cows and pigs have been promoted in localities such as Duc Hue, Vinh Hung, Tan Thanh (former Long An province), etc.

Along with the rice growing models, the province also implemented the Project to Build a High-Tech Dragon Fruit Production Area (6,000 hectares); continued to monitor 3 pilot models of dragon fruit production according to GAP standards in many communes of Chau Thanh district (former Long An province). Up to now, the cooperatives participating in the model have been supported with materials with a total cost of 68.4 million VND.

Established in 2004, Duong Xuan Cooperative (An Luc Long Commune) currently has 115 members with a total cultivated area of 458 hectares. Of which, 101 hectares of dragon fruit are grown according to GlobalGAP standards, 69 hectares meet VietGAP standards. According to Director of Duong Xuan Cooperative Phan Thanh Son, in recent years, the Cooperative has received many practical supports from the agricultural sector such as brand building, trademark registration, geographical indication development, granting growing area codes and supporting materials and machinery for production.

“The industry also regularly organizes training courses and seminars to help farmers access new technical advances, especially in the care and management of dragon fruit gardens. Thanks to this, farmers' awareness has changed significantly, with many households switching from using chemical fertilizers to biological fertilizers. This conversion not only helps increase productivity, improve soil porosity, but also limits pesticide residues on dragon fruit, improves the quality of agricultural products and meets the requirements of the export market,” said Mr. Phan Thanh Son.

According to the representative of the Provincial Center for Agricultural Science and Technology, in the coming time, the Center will continue to promote pilot models, especially rice production according to VietGAP standards, plant breeding at production farms, strengthen disease prevention and control activities, focus on supporting summer-autumn crop production, and coordinate with units to continue implementing programs from the Central Government, international cooperation and high-tech application projects.

Arousing the spirit of innovation and applying science and technology in production is the premise for Tay Ninh agriculture to develop in a modern direction, increase farmers' income and contribute to building a green, clean and sustainable agriculture./.
