The match of a lifetime for the Vietnamese futsal team

The Vietnamese futsal team had an unforgettable semi-final match against Australia in the Southeast Asian futsal championship at 3:00 p.m. today (November 8).

Coach Diego Giustozzi’s players had a shaky start, trailing 0-2 in the first half. However, timely adjustments from the Argentine coach helped the Vietnamese futsal team turn the game around. Tu Minh Quang and Nguyen Da Hai shined in turn, helping Vietnam tie the score at 2-2. The two teams then continued to chase each other, ending the 40 official minutes with a 3-3 draw.

In extra time, Nguyen Thinh Phat's brilliant moment with a header right at the beginning of the second extra time, then "closing" the match with a perfect 10m free kick helped the Vietnamese futsal team win 5-4, thereby entering the final after many years of waiting.

Vietnam futsal team entered the final

The Vietnamese futsal team will play the final of the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship at 6 p.m. on November 10. Coach Giustozzi and his team will face the winner of the remaining semi-final between Thailand and Indonesia, which will take place at 6 p.m. today.

Wide open opportunities

The Vietnamese futsal team won all five of their first matches at the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament. This is the first time in history that Vietnamese futsal has achieved this in a regional tournament.

On the way to the final, Thinh Phat and his teammates defeated Thailand (3-2), Malaysia (2-0), Brunei (14-0), Timor Leste (4-1), then overcame Australia (5-4) in a rain of goals in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Whether or not they win the championship, this will be a memorable tournament for the Vietnamese futsal team. After failing to qualify for the 2024 Futsal World Cup, success in this year's tournament will be a stepping stone for coach Giustozzi and his team to rebuild their squad and strengthen their spirit for the important upcoming tournaments.
