On October 1, information from Military Hospital 175 Ho Chi Minh City ( Ministry of National Defense ), the hospital's Air Rescue Team coordinated with the helicopter of Army Corps 18 (Ministry of National Defense) to successfully transport three seriously ill patients from Truong Sa special zone (Khanh Hoa province) safely to the mainland for intensive treatment.
The first case is patient NTH (born in 1976) being treated at Tien Nu Island Infirmary.
Previously, the patient had symptoms of high fever for 8 consecutive days, difficulty urinating, and impaired consciousness. On September 28, the patient went to the emergency room at Tien Nu Island Infirmary. Through Telemedicine consultation with doctors from Military Hospital 175 , the patient was diagnosed with late-stage tuberculous meningitis/purulent meningitis.
However, due to the patient's condition getting worse, falling into a coma and showing signs of progressive multi-organ dysfunction, the doctors decided to request air transport of the patient to the mainland for treatment.
The second case is patient VXH (born in 1972) who is being treated at Phan Vinh Island Infirmary. On September 29, the patient had weakness on the right side of his body, crooked mouth and difficulty speaking.
After a telemedicine consultation, doctors at Military Hospital 175 determined that the patient had suffered a left-hemispheric stroke. The patient was at risk of progressive brain damage and respiratory failure, so they decided to request air transport to the mainland for treatment.
The third patient is TVC (born in 2005), who is being treated at the Truong Sa Special Zone Medical Center with a diagnosis of Nephrotic Syndrome, severe edema, and hypertension. The patient is at risk of progressive respiratory and heart failure, so it was decided to request air transport to the mainland.
Complying with the order of the Ministry of National Defense, the 18th Army Corps mobilized the EC-225 VN-8622 helicopter and the Air Rescue Team of Military Hospital 175 to depart from Tan Son Nhat Airport at 4:15 p.m. on September 30 to fly to Truong Sa special zone to pick up the patients.

Despite heavy rain due to the storm, strong winds and limited visibility, the flight crew bravely maneuvered and landed on the islands one by one to receive three patients and safely transport them to the mainland.
Lieutenant, Doctor Nguyen Van Sang, Head of the Air Rescue Team, said that on one flight, having to receive three patients consecutively from three different islands caused the workload to be intense and extremely stressful. In particular, the case of the tuberculous meningitis patient on Tien Nu Island was very serious, any change in pressure in the cabin could increase intracranial pressure, endangering his life.
The doctors of the Air Emergency Team had to discuss carefully with the flight crew, agreeing to fly at the lowest possible altitude to ensure the patient's safety, even though flying low would make the flight longer.
“Every minute in the air was very stressful for us, but in the end all three patients were brought home safely,” Dr. Sang shared.
Upon arriving at Military Hospital 175, the patients were taken to the Emergency Department, continued to check for injuries, conducted consultations and provided appropriate further treatment./.
