According to the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, over the past 50 years, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Malaysia has had positive results, especially in investment cooperation, trade exchange, education , tourism and people-to-people exchange.
On the morning of June 13, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Malaysia diplomatic relations (1973-2023).
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that 50 years ago, Malaysia was the first country in ASEAN to recognize the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam.
Since 1991, Vietnam-Malaysia relations entered a new stage of development, expanding many areas of cooperation within the framework of bilateral cooperation and with ASEAN.
In 2015, the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership, bringing bilateral cooperation to a new level both multilaterally and bilaterally.
According to the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Vietnam and Malaysia share many cultural similarities and have highly complementary cooperation. The space for connection and common development between Vietnam (including Ho Chi Minh City ) and Malaysia is still extremely vast; the achievements that have been made are just the beginning.
On the basis of the good relationship between the two countries, the relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and Malaysia has had positive results, especially in investment cooperation, trade exchange, education, tourism and people-to-people exchange.
Mr. Phan Van Mai affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City attaches great importance to the relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia in general, and the relationship between the City and Malaysia in particular. The friendship, cooperation and common vision have contributed to the common development of the two countries, and will be the guiding principle for the two sides' journey forward in the coming years.
In an increasingly connected and dynamic world, we are well-positioned to overcome challenges and create opportunities together, opening a new chapter for cooperation.
“Looking back at the achievements of bilateral relations, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the efforts of different generations in both countries to foster the good friendship between Vietnam and Malaysia. Those efforts and achievements will certainly be cherished, preserved and promoted in the next stage. Together, we will build a bright and prosperous future for both countries,” Mr. Phan Van Mai emphasized.
Dato Tan Yang Thai, Ambassador of Malaysia to Vietnam, shared that since March 30, 1973 - the day Malaysia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations, the bilateral relationship between the two countries has proven to be strong and long-lasting. The two countries' strong commitment to this relationship has brought about a number of remarkable achievements, including the signing of many bilateral agreements, the development of economic relations, especially after Vietnam implemented its renovation policy and increased people-to-people exchanges.
Ambassador Dato Tan Yang Thai said that the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Vietnam were further strengthened with the signing of the agreement to establish a Strategic Partnership between the two countries in 2015.
This agreement calls for closer cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam in all areas, demonstrating the determination of both countries to deepen the bilateral relationship. Malaysia sees great potential and opportunities in Vietnam and will continue to further strengthen trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, especially in potential areas.
Malaysia and Vietnam have also become important partners in tourism, educational cooperation and people-to-people exchange. In addition, the frequent exchange of visits at the leadership level between Malaysia and Vietnam is also a sign of the close relationship between the two countries, a good sign that the bilateral relationship between the two countries will become increasingly strong and sustainable in the future.
