On May 26, 2006, the Government issued a Prime Minister 's decision to designate June 6 as the Traditional Day of the Elderly in Vietnam to encourage the elderly to continue promoting traditions, experiences and spiritual values for the next generation.
On June 6, 1941, President Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter “Respectfully announcing to the people” and “A call for solidarity for all elders” calling on the entire people to unite in carrying out the task of national liberation. He clearly stated the role and responsibility of the elders: “The responsibility of the elders to the responsibility of the country is truly great. The prosperous country is built by the elders, the country exists thanks to the elders’ help. The country is lost, the elders save it, the country collapses, the elders support it, the country rises, declines, exists, and perishes, the elders all bear a very heavy responsibility… When the country is worried, the elders must worry too. When the country is happy, the elders are happy too”. Responding to President Ho Chi Minh’s call, the Elders’ Association for National Salvation was organized in localities across the country to actively contribute with the entire Party, people, and army to wage the resistance war against colonial invaders to win victory and complete the task of national salvation.
Promoting the glorious revolutionary tradition of the elderly over the past 81 years, "The older the age, the higher the ambition" in the cause of building and developing the country, the elderly in Binh Thuan have enthusiastically competed in patriotism, upholding the spirit of "Older age - Bright example" in emulation movements, with many typical advanced collectives and individuals doing well in economics; the grassroots Associations at all levels have made important contributions to building and defending the Fatherland, building a rich and beautiful homeland.
