Tightening safety and touching stories
Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that this year's public high school entrance exam took place in a special context. Nearly 116,000 candidates took the exam, of which more than 102,000 students registered for public schools, the highest number in the country, putting a lot of pressure on the exam organization. Mr. Cuong emphasized: "We work with the motto of putting students' interests first, carefully calculating from choosing exam locations, arranging exam times, avoiding confusion, and reducing psychological pressure for candidates."
Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, said that the city has arranged 201 examination sites with 4,411 official examination rooms and 201 backup examination rooms, mobilizing more than 15,000 invigilators and nearly 1,000 police officers to ensure security. The percentage of candidates attending the Literature, Foreign Language and Math exams reached 99.6%, 99.59% and 99.57% respectively. Only 1 candidate violated the regulations in the Foreign Language subject. Inspection and supervision work is carried out regularly and strictly to ensure exam safety.
“Many teachers andeducation officials put aside their work and sacrificed their personal lives to participate in making test papers, invigilating the exam, supervising, ensuring absolute confidentiality and safety,” Mr. Cuong emotionally shared: “As soon as the exam took place, some comrades received sad news but still held back their emotions to complete their tasks and then return home to mourn their father. At the same time, teachers who made test papers stayed in quarantine areas for 15 days, without contact with the outside world. Living conditions were very strict, but everyone was serious because of their responsibility for the exam”...
At the same time, the humanitarian spirit also spreads in society: pagodas and churches open their doors for students to come early to wait for exams, and many support activities such as food, drinks, and spiritual encouragement gifts are provided.
The head of the capital's education sector also shared that the studious spirit of Hanoi students was clearly demonstrated. There were 12 candidates with health problems but still wanted to take the exam, including one who had just had an appendectomy on the first night of the exam, but he still wanted to take the final exam. "Although the steering committee was very confused, with the coordination of the medical staff and the police, we organized a separate exam for him, ensuring absolute safety," the Department Director recounted.
2018 General Education Program enters the transition exam
Regarding the exam questions, Mr. Pham Quoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, informed that the Department has announced the structure, format and sample exam questions according to the 2018 General Education Program (GEP) from August 2024. This helps students and schools have a clear direction in teaching and reviewing. The exam questions for all subjects are closely following the 2018 Program and the announced matrix. The official exam questions are closely following the 2018 GEP, ensuring knowledge and skills standards and aiming to develop students' qualities and abilities. In particular, for the Literature subject, the exam questions are designed in an open format, close to reality, not limited to textbooks. This approach encourages students to express their personal thinking, genuine emotions and ability to apply language, eliminating the situation of memorizing sample texts.
Foreign Language and Math subjects are also designed to be practical, with good differentiation, suitable for students' communication, thinking and problem-solving skills. Math exams not only test logical thinking but also assess modeling and application skills to real-life problems. The 2025-2026 Hanoi Math entrance exam for grade 10 is a reasonable step in the context of comprehensive educational innovation. The exam still ensures classification, maintains traditional features in the structure, but has made strong improvements in problem thinking, problem posing and orientation for developing students' abilities.
Mr. Hoai Duong (Math teacher, Giang Vo 2 Secondary School) shared: “Many of my students did well on the test, with a relaxed spirit. The test differentiated well, question C on geometry and question 5 required thinking and creativity. The test stimulated students’ critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity, which is what a modern education system always aims for.” Compared to the previously announced test structure, the official test was very close, helping students and teachers not to be confused.
Absolutely serious marking
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has applied information technology to build a digital map to support the administration and safe organization of the exam. The Department will also coordinate with the City People's Committee Office to build a digital map of the 2025 high school graduation exam scores on a mobile platform, helping candidates easily look up, navigate and grasp exam information.
Mr. Cuong affirmed that the work of marking, entering scores and announcing results was also carried out seriously. "Just a 0.25 point difference can affect the candidate's passing or failing. We require the entire industry to carry out the work with the highest caution and accuracy"... Mr. Tran The Cuong said that the work of marking exams is ready, ensuring progress, quality and safety. Notably, it is expected that from July 4 to July 6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce the exam scores and admission scores for grade 10 of public high schools at the same time. This is the first time the announcement has been made simultaneously, helping to reduce the waiting pressure for candidates.
Today, June 9, candidates took the specialized subject exam, concluding the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi in 2025.
