Passionate about literature and with a strong aptitude for the field, Dinh Thanh Ngan, a 9th-grade student from Nguyen Du Junior High School in Rach Gia Ward, decided to apply to the specialized literature class at Huynh Man Dat High School for the Gifted.
Ngan started preparing for the 10th grade entrance exam during the summer of 8th grade with a clear and focused study plan. Besides studying, Ngan dedicated time to rest, recreation, and entertainment to ensure her health and mental well-being. “I’m lucky because my parents don’t put pressure on me to achieve high scores; they’ve always been supportive and caring throughout my preparation. Besides that, my teachers encouraged me; when I made mistakes, they pointed them out so I could correct them and improve. My teachers and family motivated and supported me, keeping me strong before the exam. As the exam day approached, although I was nervous, I encouraged myself that every exam has its difficulties and challenges, and as long as I study seriously and do my best, I will achieve good results,” Thanh Ngan said.
Wanting to test herself before a crucial turning point, Nguyen Phuong Trang, a 9th-grade student from Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School in Rach Gia Ward, is taking the entrance exam for the specialized English class at Huynh Man Dat Specialized High School. According to Phuong Trang, this is not just a regular entrance exam but also a milestone for her to check her own limits.
Phuong Trang's study progress has been steady, and she has accelerated her studies, focusing on revision for the past two months. Trang sets specific goals and study plans for each subject to maintain a stable learning pace and avoid excessive stress. "I maintain an optimistic attitude. Whenever I feel anxious, I encourage myself, viewing the exam as an experience to learn and discover myself, which helps me feel more relaxed and confident," Trang said.
While many students are worried and stressed, Cao Khanh Tam, a student in class 9A3 at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School in Binh Duc ward, remains calm, confident, and proactive in her journey to conquer the exam. "Instead of being afraid, I choose to focus entirely on studying and reviewing," Tam shared.
Currently, Tam has basically completed reviewing the amount of knowledge needed to prepare for the exam. In the days leading up to the exam, Tam mainly spends her time consolidating knowledge, practicing exam questions, and honing her writing skills for the Literature subject. Despite her busy schedule, Tam is still conscious of protecting her health. She maintains a regular and scientific diet and sleep schedule, never skipping meals or staying up too late. At the same time, her parents are always by her side, encouraging her and nourishing her with her favorite foods to boost her energy.
That thorough preparation gave Tam a solid foundation of knowledge, resulting in impressive grades, especially in mathematics with an average grade of 9.8. Sharing her study secrets, Tam said she always grasped the theory firmly, worked on exercises from basic to advanced levels, and proactively sought out more challenging question types to learn from her mistakes. Besides self-study, Tam also regularly organized study groups with her friends twice a week, following the principle of mutual support and compensation. In the shared study space, Tam took on the key role of guiding the group in mathematics, while her friends helped her improve her skills in literature and English. This sharing not only helped the members progress together but also helped Tam solidify her knowledge.
Amidst the general anxiety and nervousness of many students taking the entrance exam, Tran Hoa Thinh, a student in class 9A3 at Ly Thuong Kiet Secondary School in Long Xuyen ward, maintained a confident attitude and belief in the journey ahead. Meeting Thinh during the final days of the exam season, my first impression of this student was his calmness and radiant smile. With a desire to become a teacher, Thinh said that for the 10th grade entrance exam, he applied to the specialized biology class at Thoai Ngoc Hau High School for the Gifted.
When asked about his academic achievements, Thinh shared his admirable accomplishments: excelling as the top student in his class and grade 9, and proudly receiving the title of outstanding student of the entire school with an average grade of 9.9 for the year. Speaking about the secret to achieving this record, Thinh shared: "For me, the most important thing is perseverance." Much of his success stems from his self-study at home. Every day, Thinh dedicates about 3 hours in the evening to reviewing his knowledge.
Before an important and highly competitive exam, for each student, family is a "recharging station," the most peaceful haven, allowing them to confidently enter the exam room with the utmost self-assurance.
