When we visited her home, Mother Tuoi welcomed us with a warm smile. Despite her advanced age and declining health, she was still strong - the strength of a young woman who had fought for the revolution. During the resistance war against the US to save the country, Mother Tuoi was assigned to be a liaison. Many times the enemy invaded her home, they searched, threatened, and burned all her papers, documents, and photos, but Mother Tuoi did not give in.
Looking at the only remaining souvenir photo of her husband and son, mother Tuoi could not hold back her emotions. "My son went to war when he was only 14 years old. He was small but very brave, so everyone in the team loved him. That time, he was injured so I asked him to come home, intending to keep him here this time, but when his wound healed, he was eager to continue fighting. I was both worried and wished for my son to be safe, but war..." - the mother choked up and said, then her voice dropped: "He died when he was just 19 years old." Her husband was also a martyr, dying in 1960 in the battle at Cho Dem station.
My husband and children followed the call of the Fatherland and remained on the battlefield. Every time I remember them, my tears fall. I love my children and miss my husband, but deep in my heart, I understand that the blood of my husband and children has mingled with the peace and independence of today.
At that time, suppressing the pain of losing her husband and her child, Mother Tuoi continued to take on the task of liaison and hiding revolutionary cadres in a secret and safe manner. She skillfully and courageously overcame all challenges, completing all tasks excellently even in the most difficult circumstances. Although she was imprisoned by the enemy, she never gave up and remained steadfast in her revolutionary ideals.
After the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, Mother Tuoi took on the position of Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, then Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of My Yen commune. Regardless of her role, she is always determined to contribute to the sustainable development of the locality.
In 2015,the President awarded Mother Tuoi the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother . The title is a tribute to her contributions and sacrifices in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland.
Now, at the age of 92, Tuoi's mother's greatest wish is to know exactly where her son's grave is so she can light incense in memory of him./.
