Lai Gia Thanh wins gold medal at Asian Weightlifting Championship

The 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships will take place from May 9 to 16 in Jiangshan, China, and will bring together many of the world's top athletes.

The Vietnamese weightlifting team participated in the tournament with 8 athletes, including prominent names such as Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan, Lai Gia Thanh, Ngo Son Dinh, Pham Thi Hong Thanh, and Quang Thi Tam.

On the evening of May 9, Vietnam time, the Vietnamese weightlifting team entered the competition at the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championship in the women's 45kg and men's 55kg categories.

In the men's 55kg category, weightlifter Lai Gia Thanh (born in 1998) had an excellent performance, competing fiercely with young Chinese talent Wang Weidong (born in 2004).

Vietnamese weightlifters completed all three clean and jerk events with weights of 115kg, 118kg and 120kg respectively to win the gold medal in this event.

Moving on to the clean and jerk competition, Lai Gia Thanh only conquered the 140kg weight, behind weightlifter Agad Fernando (Philippines) - reaching 141kg, and Wang Weidong - reaching 146kg.

At the end of the competition, Lai Gia Thanh won the gold medal in snatch, bronze medal in clean and jerk and silver medal in total lift (260kg).

In the women's 45kg category, young weightlifter Pham Dinh Thi won 3 bronze medals in the snatch (68kg), clean and jerk (85kg) and total lift (153kg).

Chinese athlete Zhao Jin Hong won the gold medal with a total lift of 190kg. Chinese Taiwanese athlete Hong Zi Yu won the silver medal with a total lift of 161kg.
