Lam Dong inspects school kitchens after allegations of poor quality food

(Dan Tri) - Lam Dong province leaders requested authorities to conduct surprise inspections of food safety in school kitchens and strictly handle violations.

On September 20, Mr. Dinh Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, signed a document requesting competent authorities to strengthen food safety control at educational institutions in the area.

This move was made after complaints related to TV Primary School (Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat) being accused of contracting with an unsafe food supplier to provide boarding meals for students.

Lam Dong Provincial leaders requested the Department of Health to coordinate and support human resources as requested by the Lam Dong Provincial Police Inspection Team established to verify and clarify the content of the press's reflection; determine the cause, responsibility of organizations and individuals and solutions to overcome the consequences.

At the same time, the Department of Health was assigned to preside over and coordinate with Lam Dong Provincial Police, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Agriculture and Environment, Department of Education and Training, localities, and related units to grasp information about the incident and report to Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee before September 23.

Provincial leaders requested the Department of Health to increase surprise inspections of food safety at school kitchens in the province; inspect facilities with large-scale kitchens, correct violations, and ensure food safety.

Lam Dong provincial leaders also requested Lam Dong provincial police to strengthen the fight against crimes in food production and trading. At the same time, strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate this field, especially smuggling, production, processing and trading of fake and poor quality food.

The Department of Education and Training is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to direct and guide educational institutions to strictly implement requirements and solutions to ensure food safety in schools; direct educational institutions to guide teachers and students to properly practice food safety, prevent poisoning and infectious diseases through food.

In particular, Lam Dong province leaders assigned the Department of Education and Training to improve management of school kitchens, ensure food safety; coordinate with functional agencies in inspecting, checking and supervising food safety for boarding kitchens, food businesses and catering services in educational institutions.

Previously, Dan Tri reported that on Facebook, an account named "Nguyen Thanh" posted information about a unit repeatedly providing food of poor quality to TV Primary School.

Accordingly, in the 2024-2025 school year, the supplier delivered to the school 10kg of smelly pork bones that showed signs of turning green; 35kg of frozen beef balls that smelled, without packaging or labels; 60kg of pork that, after boiling, had a dark green color and a strange smell; 50kg of wet, smelly pre-sliced ​​beef...

The incident caused public outrage, dozens of parents whose children are studying at TV Primary School went to the school to ask the principal for information about the incident.

On September 17, the Department of Education and Training of Lam Dong province and the People's Committee of Xuan Huong ward - Da Lat requested the leaders of TV Primary School to report the incident.
