Cleaning up the marine environment

Việt NamViệt Nam25/09/2024

Typhoon No. 3, which hit Quang Ninh province , caused extremely severe consequences, devastating the landscape and environment with a large amount of debris from floating buoys, styrofoam, rafts, and sunken ships at sea. To thoroughly deal with the waste, in recent days, agencies, units, and localities in the province have made efforts to collect it in order to quickly restore the beautiful landscape.

Leaders of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, along with other forces, are collecting floating garbage at sea.

Responding to the 7-day intensive campaign to mitigate the consequences of Typhoon No. 3 launched by the Ha Long City Party Committee, immediately after the storm subsided, the leaders of the Ha Long Bay Management Board directed staff at tourist entry points to proactively clean up and collect garbage in areas around access points and cave entrances. However, to quickly restore the landscape of Ha Long Bay, the Ha Long Bay Management Board organized a comprehensive garbage collection campaign, mobilizing the participation of numerous units, localities, and forces stationed in the area, including: staff, soldiers of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Border Guard Command, Quang Ninh Green Park Joint Stock Company, and tourism service businesses operating in the bay. In just three days of the Ha Long Bay cleanup campaign (from September 15-17), the participating units collected nearly 70 bamboo rafts and almost 300 cubic meters of various types of waste, including branches, leaves, styrofoam floats, and household waste.

According to Mr. Vu Kien Cuong, Head of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, this campaign aims to contribute to overcoming the problem of unsightly waste and environmental pollution after Typhoon No. 3. In addition to the intensive three-day campaign from September 15-17, the unit has determined that this work will be carried out regularly. After cleaning the sea area, waste collected in the coastal area will be thoroughly collected from September 18-25. This is also a very meaningful activity demonstrating the high determination of the local Party committee and government to quickly overcome the consequences of the typhoon and build the image of Quang Ninh as a safe destination.

Local authorities and other forces are making every effort to thoroughly collect a large amount of waste from floating rafts and aquaculture farms belonging to local households.

Cam Pha City was also severely affected by Typhoon No. 3, with a large amount of waste washing ashore and floating in the sea. To address this situation, the city launched a campaign to protect the environment, clean up, and collect waste along the coastline, with the participation of 14 out of 16 coastal wards and communes. The local authorities proactively developed plans and strategies, emphasizing the spirit and responsibility of each official, Party member, civil servant, and resident; and mobilized the participation and coordination of agencies, units, and forces stationed in the area to actively carry out beach cleanup.

Major Nguyen Duc Trung, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Cam Pha City Military Command, said: Immediately after Typhoon No. 3 passed, the city's armed forces regularly coordinated with the government, local authorities, and other forces in the area to participate in overcoming the consequences of Typhoon No. 3. The unit mobilized over 600 officers and soldiers and over 300 vehicles to cooperate with local authorities in cleaning up marine environmental areas to ensure the overall ecological balance of the Cam Pha sea area in particular and Quang Ninh in general.

The Ha Long City public service team participated in cleaning up the marine environment.

Since September 19th, immediately after launching the marine environmental protection campaign, Cam Pha City has mobilized nearly 2,300 people, along with many specialized vehicles and machinery, to collect various types of household waste, floating buoys and rafts used for aquaculture, and wrecked ships, cleaning up the coastal and marine environment. To date, the entire city has collected 526 cubic meters of styrofoam buoys and waste, and nearly 80 tons of waste and rafts. To thoroughly address the amount of floating waste at sea, the city continues to direct and effectively implement Resolution No. 32-NQ/TU (dated July 20, 2023) of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee on building "Cam Pha City - A city without waste, clean, beautiful, and safe".

Currently, localities in the province are striving to overcome the damage caused by Typhoon No. 3, rebuild the economy , and stabilize lives, work, and production. Along with this, localities and units continue to raise awareness among fishermen and the general public about the purpose and significance of environmental protection; implement practical solutions for collecting and transporting waste to designated collection points and ensuring proper waste treatment to prevent the recurrence of environmental pollution; and restore the marine environment and ecosystem, stabilizing aquaculture production.
