On August 4-5, 2025 at the historic Dewan Sri Pinang Theatre in Georgetown, Penang Island, Malaysia, 129BPM - a contemporary Vietnamese Hip Hop performance will be performed at Georgetown Festival 2025.

This is also the first time a stage work from Vietnam has been presented at one of the largest performing arts festivals in Asia.

"129BPM" - Vietnam's contemporary Hip Hop show will be performed at Georgetown Festival 2025.

129BPM is a unique and refreshing performance, where street dance is interwoven with contemporary folk music , set against a “soft sculpture” of fabric. Anchored by the rhythm of 129BPM – the average heartbeat during moments of intense pressure – the performance transforms the stage into an emotional journey exploring identity, conflict and human connections in an increasingly urbanized world.

Choreographed by French-Vietnamese artist Bui Ngoc Quan, 129BPM is an original and spiritual artistic inquiry, exploring the delicate balance between individuality and community. As the dancers’ physical and emotional limits are pushed to their limits, their bodies become embodiments of resistance, desire, and liberation—and thus, posing the urgent question: Can we find a common rhythm to move together, even in our differences?

129BPM marks a historic milestone as the first Vietnamese stage work to be presented at the George Town Festival. This is also Bui Ngoc Quan's highly anticipated Southeast Asian debut after 25 years with the prestigious dance company Les Ballets C de la B (Belgium).
