Spreading love after storms and floods

In October, when the Central and Northern regions were struggling to bear the consequences of storms No. 10 and No. 11, from Tay Ninh, trucks loaded with goods and necessities continued to head towards the storm's center. The timely cooperation of the government, people and the business community has been sending a message that no matter where they are, Vietnamese people always turn to each other in times of trouble and difficulty.

Vehicles carrying love

On the afternoon of October 18th, after nearly a week of returning from Ha Tinh, Ms. Ngo Thi Truc Ly (residing in Thu Thua commune, Tay Ninh province) set off again towards Bac Giang , carrying essential gifts for people affected by the storm and floods. Immediately after Typhoon No. 10 passed, she and members of the Truc Ly Charity Club quickly mobilized supplies to support those in need.

“We asked permission from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and then started mobilizing donations. Unexpectedly, within just a few days, we received hundreds of gifts. All of them are expressions of the people of Tay Ninh sending their support to those affected by the storm,” shared Ms. Truc Ly.

Having volunteered for many years and encountered numerous difficult situations, Truc Ly was more moved than ever by her recent trip to Ha Tinh . “The water has receded somewhat, but around me is still a vast flooded area. At times, it felt like I was walking in the middle of a river, only to realize it was the villagers' orchards – it was truly heartbreaking! The villagers received gifts, though few, and everyone was happy and expressed their gratitude to the people of Tay Ninh. That kindness is the motivation for me to continue my second trip to Bac Giang,” Truc Ly confided.

While the goods were being loaded onto the vehicle, preparing for departure, Ms. Vo Thi Thuy Tien (residing in Thuan My commune) brought to the group some textbooks and old clothes that had been selected and neatly arranged, along with artichoke syrup that she herself cooked for the group members to use on the journey to Bac Giang.

Ms. Tien shared: “The other day, I read about Ms. Truc Ly donating goods to people in the North, so I mobilized teachers and parents at the school to donate textbooks and used clothes, hoping to provide some support to the students there. I had everything arranged, but I was too busy, so I only managed to bring them today. Luckily, it was still on time.”

After loading the goods onto the trucks, Ms. Truc Ly carefully distributed a portion of water, boiled potatoes, and bananas to each truck – all gifts from other club members to the members of the goods transport team. The journey to Bac Giang suddenly felt shorter thanks to this gesture.

Within a short period, Vietnam was hit by two typhoons, numbers 10 and 11, causing significant damage to people in the central and northern provinces. Following the tradition of "mutual support and compassion," the people of Tay Ninh joined hands to provide assistance, even if it was just small gifts, but they were filled with the warmth of solidarity. Trucks carrying goods for the beloved central and northern regions set off from all over the province, carrying the heartfelt sentiments of the people of Tay Ninh.

On October 11th, a convoy of vehicles carrying essential supplies to support people in the North, organized by Mr. Dang Van Phuc, also departed from Tan Ninh ward, carrying thousands of boxes of instant noodles, porridge, milk, and water to the people of Lang Son and Nghe An provinces. There, the team coordinated with local authorities to personally deliver the gifts to the people. Each time they distributed gifts, Mr. Phuc offered words of encouragement and conveyed the heartfelt sentiments of the people of Tay Ninh towards those affected by the storms and floods.

Mr. Phuc said that this wasn't the first time he had mobilized support for people affected by the storm, so he had some experience and earned the trust of the local people. During this trip to Lang Son, he also mobilized the donation of mini gas stoves so that people could be more self-sufficient in their daily lives and quickly overcome difficulties. In addition, Mr. Phuc's team also provided cash assistance to some particularly needy households.

Spreading the spirit of "mutual support and love"

To undertake such trips, volunteers must put aside all family matters and dedicate all their love and compassion to their fellow citizens who are facing difficulties.

Although their job involves selling fruit daily to small traders in the market, Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Thanh Son (Tan Long hamlet) were willing to temporarily suspend their work to use their family truck to transport relief goods to the North.

Mr. Son shared: “Everyone has their own work, but when our compatriots are in difficulty, we put everything aside to help each other. Every time we read and see news about our compatriots suffering from storms and floods, my wife and I feel so heartbroken. Whether in the North or the South, we are all Vietnamese people with red blood and yellow skin.” Thinking is doing, so Mr. and Mrs. Son “begged” their customers to find other “jobs” to ease their burden for a few days while they transported relief supplies to the North in their family truck.

Driver Nguyen Thanh Son put aside all his business activities to prioritize transporting relief supplies.

The spirit of sharing among the people of Tay Ninh with their compatriots in the storm and flood-affected areas is not only demonstrated through charitable convoys heading towards Central and Northern Vietnam, but is also affirmed through the determination of the local government and the solidarity of all levels and sectors throughout the province.

This was clearly demonstrated by the Provincial Party Standing Committee's unanimous decision to urgently transfer 15 billion VND from the province's Disaster Prevention and Control Fund to share the difficulties with people in localities suffering severe consequences from the storms and floods, starting from the beginning of October. This amount was allocated to five provinces, with 3 billion VND each, including Ninh Binh, Quang Tri, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh, all of which were severely affected by the storms.

On the afternoon of October 13th, at the first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee, the Tay Ninh Provincial Party Committee launched a campaign to support people in provinces severely affected by typhoons No. 10 and No. 11. This support is not only a material resource but also a testament to the sense of responsibility and compassion of the Party Committee, government, and people of Tay Ninh towards their compatriots nationwide.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign to support people affected by typhoons No. 10 and No. 11, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, Nguyen Thanh Hai, called on cadres, Party members, civil servants, public employees, armed forces, and all strata of people in the province to uphold the tradition of "mutual support" and "helping those in need," joining hands to help flood-affected people overcome difficulties, quickly stabilize their lives, and restore production.

Furthermore, at the meeting commemorating Vietnamese Entrepreneurs' Day, the Provincial People's Committee also launched a program to support people affected by floods and storms, spreading a spirit of compassion within the business community. Responding to the call, entrepreneurs and businesses in Tay Ninh province contributed over 4.5 billion VND, demonstrating their affection and social responsibility towards the community.

Responding to the call of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, and provincial and commune-level agencies and units, a concerted effort was made to mobilize contributions to support people in Central and Northern Vietnam. These timely and compassionate actions have helped to rekindle hope and spread love from the sun-drenched land of Tay Ninh to the people in the remote areas affected by storms and floods.
