In the past few days, due to the tropical depression, many places across the country have had heavy rain, some very heavy rain. Binh Thuan is no exception, especially on July 19. It seems that human activities have changed a bit, but I still braved the rain to meet Mrs. Le Thi Hong Duyen, over 80 years old, in Phu Trinh ward as scheduled.

In her warm house, I listened to her tell stories about her worthwhile youth in her hometown of Nghe An. At the age of 17, she participated in raising soldiers to serve the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Then she met Uncle Ho, with a weak voice due to old age, sometimes her voice choked up as if she wanted to cry out loud because she missed Uncle Ho. She also donated nearly 40 photos of Uncle Ho to the Binh Thuan Provincial Museum.

When the afternoon rain had just stopped, I asked her permission to leave. As soon as I stepped out onto the porch, her daughter-in-law My Hanh started talking to me and told me: “General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has passed away!” I opened my eyes and asked her again as Ms. Duyen also came out of the house. “I saw people posting on social media that the General Secretary has passed away…”, Ms. Hanh repeated because she saw that I did not believe it was true. Ms. Duyen was also stunned, all three of us were silent, not knowing what else to say. It seemed like everyone felt a sense of loss, as if they had lost something huge and indescribable.

While social networks were constantly sharing, I quickly scrolled through and saw that everyone expressed their condolences for the General Secretary, with many different emotions. That showed that he was very popular with the people when they recognized that the country had achieved great results and achievements like today thanks to the correct and wise leadership of the Party Central Committee, directly the Politburo, the Secretariat, headed by him. In particular, foreign affairs achieved many extremely important results. Vietnam has been developing diplomatic relations with many countries and organizations in the world in many fields such as economics, international trade, security, etc.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - a communist soldier, an outstanding leader, with intelligence, courage, a great personality and loyalty, led the country in difficult and complicated times, overcoming many storms.
