The Paris 2024 Olympic Village is ready to welcome athletes and sports officials to participate in the world's most important sporting event.
This will be the "home" of thousands of athletes and also the center of the Olympics.
On February 29, the organizing committee took over the village as scheduled.
At the inauguration ceremony, organizing committee chief Tony Estanguet received the symbolic key in front of guests and French President Emmanuel Macron.
With nearly 40 low-rise buildings, the Paris Olympic Village will host about 14,000 athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics and 9,000 athletes participating in the subsequent Paralympics.
The athletes' village is the largest and most newly built project within the framework of this Olympics.
Located on the banks of the Seine River, the complex was designed and built in an environmentally friendly style, aiming to create the world's first "green" sporting event.
Accordingly, the buildings are constructed with low-carbon wood and concrete structures, along with geothermal heating systems that use energy from the ground - a renewable energy source.
These designs reduce CO2 emissions by half compared to designs using conventional materials and techniques.
With the "green" criteria, in addition to the facilities serving athletes such as training facilities before the tournament, the complex also has a mini wastewater treatment plant, serving the trees planted in the village campus. The above complex also has a 24/7 restaurant and bar.
According to the organizers, the completion of the athletes' village will be carried out in the next 4 months, with the installation of more than 300,000 pieces of furniture and decorations.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said the 2024 Paris Olympics will be the first Summer Olympics planned and organized in accordance with the reforms of the Olympic Agenda.
The IOC has allocated exactly the same number of places for male and female athletes to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
If this request is complied with, the 2024 Paris Olympics will become the first Olympics in history to have the same number of male and female athletes.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11. For the first time in Olympic history, the opening ceremony will be held in the heart of the city, with the Seine River serving as the stage to welcome the world's best athletes, and hundreds of thousands of people watching along the riverbank.
