According to local information, prolonged heavy rain caused many streets in Lang Son City to be deeply flooded due to water not being able to drain quickly, forcing people to stay up all night to evacuate their belongings.

At the underpass area of Highway 1A, the water rose rapidly at around 2am, forcing dozens of households to urgently move their belongings. A car stalled in the middle of the water, and at the "white gate" area, an electric motorbike was swept away by the water. On Bo Cung Pass, rocks rolled onto the road, causing danger.

Many residential areas had their houses flooded, and some places lost power overnight. By 4-6am, the rain had stopped and the water began to recede.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from 7pm on May 18 to 3am on May 19, the rainfall in Na Sam (Lang Son) was measured at 178.6mm, and according to the Vrain automatic rain gauge system, the figure was up to 180.4mm - the highest in the country during this rain period. Some other localities also recorded very heavy rain such as Tuyen Quang (Hoang Khai: 162mm), Thai Nguyen (Binh Thanh: 148.8mm), Bac Kan (Cao Tan: 112.6mm).

On May 19, the weather in the Northern region is forecast to remain erratic: rain in the morning, sunny in the afternoon, and possible thunderstorms in the evening. The Northeast region continues to have moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 20-40mm in general, and over 70mm in some places. The Northwest, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An are at risk of localized rains of over 30mm, with some places even experiencing heavy rains exceeding 50mm in 3 hours.
However, from May 20, heavy rain tends to decrease.
