At the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet congratulated Mr. Atanas Zafirov on being elected as Party Chairman by the 50th Congress of the BSP (February 2025); at the same time, she highly appreciated the achievements of the BSP in the ruling coalition in recent times and Mr. Atanas Zafirov personally in his position as Deputy Prime Minister.
The Ambassador informed Mr. Atanas Zafirov and the BSP leaders about Vietnam's recent important political, economic and social achievements under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam , headed by General Secretary To Lam, especially the process of restructuring and streamlining the apparatus, actively preparing for the 14th National Congress of Delegates in the first half of 2026. The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Bulgaria, especially attaching importance to cooperation through the party channel.

Providing an overview of the development of the BSP and the recent political situation in Bulgaria, Party Chairman Atanas Zafirov introduced the BSP, formerly the Communist Party of Bulgaria, which has traditionally had friendly relations with the Communist Party of Vietnam. The BSP is currently participating in the ruling coalition with many key positions in the National Assembly and the Government (Chairman of the National Assembly, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister and 4 Ministers).
Affirming his desire to further promote party-channel cooperation with the Communist Party of Vietnam, Party Chairman Atanas Zafirov said that good cooperation between the two parties will contribute positively to the political trust between the two countries. He agreed to strengthen high-level political dialogue between the two parties and exchange theories and practices on socialism, share experience in policy making for the benefit of the people; promote youth cooperation, cultural exchange, and people-to-people exchanges.
Appreciating the promotion of cooperation through the Intergovernmental Committee mechanism in recent times, Party Chairman Atanas Zafirov proposed that in addition to traditional cooperation areas (politics - diplomacy, education - training), the two sides should study and expand cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, investment, energy, science - technology, tourism and labor, continue to effectively utilize the cooperation mechanisms of Vietnam - EU, Vietnam - ASEAN, strengthen coordination and support each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms. He expressed his welcome to the new visa exemption policy of the Vietnamese Government for Bulgarian citizens.
