Provincial leaders work with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Thailand to Vietnam

Working with the delegation were Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Thailand to Vietnam, representatives of the Board of Directors of the Thai Business Association in Vietnam and Thai businesses.

In recent years, Nghe An's cooperation with Thailand has had positive results. Regarding bilateral cooperation, Nghe An province has joined the Association of 9 provinces of 3 countries Vietnam, Laos, Thailand using Highway 8 and Highway 12 - APOTC Association (including Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh of Vietnam; Bo Ly Kham Xay and Kham Muon of Laos; Nakhon Phanom, Sakhon Nakhon, Noong Khai and Bung Can of Thailand) since 1997. APOTC Association promotes cooperation activities in the fields of: Trade, Investment, Education and Training, Culture and Sports, Tourism, Science and Technology, Transport, Agriculture.

In Nghe An province, there are currently 15 FDI projects from Thailand with a total committed investment capital of over 171 million USD in diverse industries such as industrial park infrastructure business, seafood processing, food and beverage processing, mining and mineral processing...

Nghe An's export turnover to Thailand in 2022 reached 11.3 million USD and in the first 6 months of 2023 reached 5.25 million USD. Main export items include: Seafood, wood pellets, processed fruits and fruit juices, paving stones, packaging of all kinds, ...

Import turnover from Thailand in 2022 reached nearly 37 million USD and in the first 6 months of 2023 reached 20.71 million USD. Main imported items include: paper products, machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, canned fish, gasoline, plastic beads, etc.

Currently, Vinh University has expanded its cooperation programs in training, scientific research and exchange of staff and students; training university students majoring in English under the 2+2 program with other universities and organizations in Thailand such as Nakhon Phanom University, Rajabhat Ubon Ratchathani University, Khonkaen University, etc.

Nghe An is implementing tourism cooperation activities with the northeastern provinces of Thailand using Highway 8 and Highway 12 to exploit the tourist route from Nghe An to Cau Treo/Cha Lo (Vietnam) - Kham Muon/Bo Ly Kham Xay/Vieng Chan (Laos) - Na Khon Pha Nom/Sa Kon Na Khon/Nong Khai/Bung Can (Thailand) and vice versa; Organizing to welcome Thai Famtrip delegations to survey tourist routes in Nghe An.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De proposed that the Ambassador and the Thai government and enterprises pay attention to some cooperation contents such as: Introducing enterprises to learn about investment, business, and trade exchange in Nghe An, with investment projects with high added value, using modern technology, environmentally friendly, especially in the fields of: high technology, supporting industry; developing infrastructure, biotechnology for agriculture, material production, etc.; Coordinating research to open flight routes connecting the North Central provinces of Vietnam with the Northeastern provinces of Thailand; Supporting Nghe An province to survey and learn some tourism development models in Thailand (MICE tourism, sea tourism, digital tourism, etc.; organizing art troupes to participate in cultural and artistic activities in Nghe An province; Exchange cooperation in the fields of education and training, science and technology, etc.

The province will continue to promote administrative procedure reform, improve the investment environment, and create the most favorable conditions to welcome businesses in general and Thai businesses in particular to Nghe An in the coming time.

In response to Nghe An province's proposals, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Thailand to Vietnam said that Thailand is ready to cooperate with Nghe An province in all fields, and highly appreciated Nghe An's economic achievements, especially in attracting foreign investment in 2022 and the first 6 months of 2023. The Ambassador will introduce Nghe An's potential and strengths to Thai investors and businesses; connect and expand cooperation with Nghe An with Thai localities and businesses in the fields of food processing industry, services, wholesale and retail trade centers and tourism. The Ambassador expressed his hope that the Provincial Leaders and the Nghe An Provincial Government will pay attention and support Thai businesses.

Regarding the opening of a direct flight route between Thailand and Nghe An, the Ambassador said that this is a good idea and will discuss with relevant agencies to study the feasibility for implementation.

Regarding tourism, the Ambassador commented that Nghe An has many cultural and historical sites and beautiful natural landscapes and suggested that both sides promote people-to-people exchanges through tourism. Nghe An should pay attention to promoting cultural tourism and eco-tourism to Thai tourists. In return, the Embassy is interested in promoting the Tourism Authority of Thailand to pay attention to these types of tourism and destinations in Nghe An.

Regarding Education, the Ambassador said that this is a fundamental cooperative relationship and expressed interest in the 2+2 training model between the two universities. At the same time, he hoped that both sides would continue to strengthen this type of training in the future.
