"Flip Side 8" earned 200 billion after about 2 weeks

According to data from Box Office Vietnam, "Lat mat 8: Vong tay nang" reached the revenue milestone of 200 billion VND on the afternoon of May 11. In the second week of release, Ly Hai's brainchild dropped to the second place on the box office chart, giving way to "Tham tu Kien: Ky an khong head".

This is the 4th film in 2025 to reach this revenue milestone, after "The Four Guardians", "The Billionaire Kiss" and "The Ancestral House" . The work also entered the top 10 highest-grossing Vietnamese films in history.

Opening special screenings from April 27, part 8 of "Lat mat" debuted with explosive results, overwhelming its competitors in theaters. The film earned 100 billion VND after only 5 days (including 3 special screening days and 2 official screening days).

However, in the second week, the film cooled down, creating a tug-of-war with Victor Vu's "Detective Kien" at the box office. Number of screenings of "Flip Side 8" then decreased, from about 5,000 servings/day to about 2,000 servings/day.

With the current rate of making money, the possibility of Ly Hai's film surpassing the previous revenue record of part 7 ( 482 billion VND ) is impossible.

"Lat mat" is Ly Hai's brand, currently producing 8 parts, with revenue of 72 billion VND , 80 billion VND , 85 billion VND , 120 billion VND , 150 billion VND , 300 billion VND and 482 billion VND respectively.

Although "Flip Side 8" still has good revenue, Ly Hai can no longer maintain the monopoly at the box office. Director Khoa Nguyen believes that this is a positive signal for the domestic film market. "Basically, competition will promote development and improvement. Every director strives to improve the quality of the project, in the end the audience is the beneficiary," the director shared.
