The closing ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games took place on the evening of May 17 with many special performances, concluding a successful congress for host Cambodia.
After more than 10 days of competition in 37 sports with 581 events by more than 12,400 members of the sports delegations, Cambodia is proud to host a major SEA Games event for the first time in 64 years, which was more successful than expected.
Cambodia concluded its first SEA Games with a thank you to the countries in the region. The Games also left a mark such as free accommodation for the participating delegations, or the large coverage of the competitions due to the host providing free television copyright.
For the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, this is the third time in the history of the SEA Games that Vietnam has won the overall title. The previous two SEA Games were both held in Vietnam (2003 and 2022). This is also the first time Vietnam has ranked first in the SEA Games when it is not the host country. The Thai Sports Delegation ranked second in the medal tally, while the Indonesian Sports Delegation ranked third. |
The closing ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games opened with a parade of participating Southeast Asian sports delegations, honoring volunteers working at the games.
After the speeches of the officials, there was a performance honoring the outstanding athletes of the 32nd SEA Games. Female athletes Quah Ting Wen (Singapore) and Pal Chhor Raksmy (Cambodia) were honored.
Ting Wen is the athlete who won the most Gold Medals at the 32nd SEA Games with 6 times, including 4 Gold Medals in the individual event. Raksmy is the host athlete who won the most Gold Medals with 4 in the performance event of Vovinam.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen declared the 32nd SEA Games closed, officially ending the first-ever sports event held in his country. Cambodia finished the SEA Games with a fourth-place finish, the highest in history.
The SEA Games flag handover ceremony of Cambodia was then carried out to the host country at the next Games - Thailand.
The 33rd SEA Games will take place in December 2025 in three cities of Thailand: Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.
The closing ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games ended with a song by the host artists.
