According to the 2022-2023 school year plan framework of the Ministry of Education and Training, localities must complete the second semester before May 25, ending the school year on May 31. The Ministry allows provinces and cities to develop their own school year plans suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions in their localities, ensuring that general education has 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks for semester I and 17 weeks for semester II); continuing education has 32 weeks of actual study for grades 8, 9, 11, 12 and 35 weeks for grades 6, 7, 10.
The Ministry of Education and Training notes that in case of natural disasters or epidemics, the school opening and extension of the school year must not exceed 15 days compared to regulations. Other special cases must be reported to the Ministry before implementation. In addition to the fixed schedules, the Director of the Department of Education and Training will decide to let students take time off from school in case of extreme weather or natural disasters and arrange make-up classes.
