The Tan Cang The Cong men's volleyball team has a chance to return to the highest podium in the national volleyball championship after 9 years of absence.

Success thanks to foreign trump card, The Cong flourishes

In the first stage of the national championship, the Tan Cang The Cong team used two foreign players from Cuba, Flores and Fuentes, and lost to the Ho Chi Minh City Police team with a score of 2-3. In the second stage and the final round, the Tan Cang The Cong team decided to recruit the number 1 opposite setter of the Indonesian team, Rivan.

The top-rated hitter in Southeast Asia showed great form, helping The Cong Tan Cang win both matches in the second stage against Sanest Khanh Hoa and Hanoi Clubs with the same score of 3-0. In the semi-final against the Ho Chi Minh City Police team, Rivan continued to play explosively, being the main scorer helping The Cong Tan Cang defeat their opponents with a score of 3-0, advancing straight to the final.

With the top form of Rivan and a stable squad of players such as Cong Duc, Manh Tai, Trung Thanh, Thanh Tung... The Tan Cang The Cong team led by coach Thai Anh Van returned to the final of the national championship from the 2021 season. The last time this team won the national championship was 9 years ago (2016 season). With high spirits after overcoming the championship candidate in the semi-finals, the Tan Cang The Cong team is determined to step up to the highest podium when facing the Border Guard team in the final taking place at 8:00 p.m. today, October 15.

Formidable defending champion

It was not easy for The Cong Tan Cang because their opponent in the final was the very strong defending champion, Border Defense. Border Defense is considered a miniature Vietnamese team when it owns a squad of players Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, Pham Van Hiep, Tran Duy Tuyen, Truong The Khai, Dinh Van Duy, Nguyen Duc Hoang and Thai foreign player Jakkrit Thanomnoi who has been with the team since phase 1 and plays well with his teammates.

The Border Guard is also very strong.

The strength of the Border Guard team comes from the cohesion and smooth coordination between players who have played together for many years and are at the peak of their careers. After winning all 7 matches in the qualifying round, in the semi-finals this team "easily" defeated the host LPBank Ninh Binh with a score of 3-1. In the qualifying round, Border Guard also defeated The Cong Tan Cang with a score of 3-0. Therefore, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan and his teammates are highly appreciated when they play again in the final. This is the 3rd consecutive season that the Border Guard team has won the right to enter the national final and aims to successfully defend the championship title.

All 8 men's teams participating in the 2025 National Volleyball Championship recruited foreign players and considered them as key players. However, not all teams were as successful as Rivan of The Cong Tan Cang. The Ho Chi Minh City Police team brought in 2 foreign players, Michal Kubiak (Poland) and Luka Tadic (Serbia). However, when Michal Kubiak was unfortunately injured in the final round of the qualifying round, Luka Tadic replaced him but did not play as expected. That was also the reason why the Ho Chi Minh City Police team was highly appreciated from the beginning of the tournament but could not advance to the final match.

Argentine foreign player Federico Pereyra also did not play as expected for Sanest Khanh Hoa , causing the current runner-up team to fall out of the top 4. Meanwhile, Tay Ninh team also had Thai foreign player Anurak Phanram but also sadly had to be relegated.

Many coaches said that in order to be successful, domestic clubs need to focus on training and building a quality domestic squad like the Border Guard team did. Then foreign players will help increase the team's strength, while the balance of domestic players still plays an important role, even deciding the team's success or failure.
