U.23 Thailand receives great expectations
Thailand U.23 entered the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 Championship as a strong candidate for the championship. Under the guidance of coach Thawatchai Damrong‑Ongtrakul, the team from the land of the golden pagodas has made careful preparations, with two training sessions a day to improve physical strength and tactical coordination.
Thai media unanimously stated that the U.23 team’s only goal in this tournament is to win the championship, and any other result would be considered a failure. Major newspapers in the land of golden pagodas all reported heavily on the Thai U.23 team, emphasizing coach Thawatchai’s decisive statement that he was ready to resign if he did not bring home the championship trophy.

Not only the title, this tournament is also considered an important test to test the strength of U.23 Thailand, towards preparing for the 33rd SEA Games as well as the upcoming 2026 U.23 Asian qualifiers. Therefore, all eyes are on the young team of the land of golden temples and how they perform at the regional tournament.
"Greetings" against U.23 Timor Leste
In Group C, U.23 Thailand only has to face two opponents that are considered weaker, Myanmar and Timor Leste. The opening match against Timor Leste at 8:00 p.m. on July 19 is considered an opportunity for coach Thawatchai and his team to have a smooth start at the 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament.
Although rated superior in both skill and physical strength, U.23 Thailand still has to be cautious, especially when this year's tournament has witnessed surprises, notably the shocking 2-0 victory of U.23 Philippines over U.23 Malaysia, while U.23 Timor Leste scored 4 goals against U.23 Myanmar (4-4 draw). U.23 Timor Leste is certainly weaker, but they played with admirable courage. If they lack concentration or are subjective, the team from the land of the golden pagoda may encounter difficulties.
The most anticipated name of U.23 Thailand is Yotsakorn Burapha, who is playing in the Thai League and expressed his desire to "meet Vietnam in the final to take revenge". In addition, a series of players with experience in the Thai League are also expected to make a difference. Not only aiming for 3 points, the opening match is also a "debut" for U.23 Thailand to affirm its position, creating pressure on competitors such as U.23 Vietnam, Indonesia or the Philippines.
