Democrats are preparing a swift response, sending out messages on social media and in the media to call for calm and patience with the vote count in case former President Donald Trump declares victory early.

The information was shared by party officials and Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign on Reuters on November 2.

Mr. Trump recently told reporters that he hopes to declare victory on Election Day, November 5, although election experts say it could take several days for final results, especially if there is a need to recount ballots in some key areas.

The winner of a US presidential election is usually announced by major media outlets that analyze vote counts provided by election officials.

While candidates sometimes declare victory before such information is released, it would be unusual to make a declaration before the result is considered clear.

"We're very sad to be prepared if he does that and if we know that he's actually manipulating the press and trying to manipulate the consensus of the American people ... we're prepared to respond," Harris said in an interview with ABC News.

She has not yet detailed the plan, but Democratic officials and her campaign said the operation would be aimed at the public, and they intend to clearly convey the message that all votes must be counted before declaring victory.

“As soon as he falsely declared victory, we were ready to go on television and provide the truth, as well as tap into our vast network of people who could use their influence to push back,” said a senior Democratic National Committee official.

In 2020, Mr. Trump declared himself the winner early the morning after Election Day, three days before the first television networks made their announcements. He ultimately lost to his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.

Mr Trump's campaign said he would fight for every vote until the polls closed, but did not directly answer a question about whether he planned to declare victory before the race was called.

Mr Trump and Republicans spent months laying the groundwork for a failed challenge by claiming that non-US citizens could try to vote for Democrats, while also preparing an army of lawyers to go to court to challenge the results.
