With the intention of using laws to regulate the development and application of artificial intelligence, the EP is being farsighted and calculating.

In fact, the EP's move is not at all unnecessary, but rather essential. Clearly, the EP has learned bitter and costly lessons about its delay in ensuring data security and regulating social media networks. The EP's foresight and planning are justified because prevention is always better than cure. The development and application of AI is limitless, so the negative effects can also be limitless; therefore, failing to implement thorough and timely regulations will only lead to a higher price to pay later.

The EP's aim for the world's first law on AI also reflects the fact that the development, application, and regulation of AI are becoming one of the most prominent topics in world politics and international relations.
