Among them, the fourth secret he mentioned was the use of walnuts.

According to BSCKII Huynh Tan Vu , University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, walnuts are also known as pecans, peanuts; scientific name is Juglans regia L, family Juglandaceae (walnuts), genus Juglans L.

Dr. Vu said that walnuts are nutritious and contain a lot of healthy fats. 65% of walnuts are fat. This fruit contains a small amount of protein (about 15%) and fiber.

Walnuts also contain healthy vitamins and minerals, such as copper, folic acid, phosphorus, vitamin B6, manganese and vitamin E. The leaves are rich in ascorbic acid, carotene and essential oils. The fruit shell, bark and leaves are rich in tannins.

Benefits of walnuts

Doctor Vu said that the effects of walnuts have been proven in both modern and traditional medicine. According to modern medicine, walnut leaves are used as antiseptics, to treat skin diseases and itching. In traditional medicine, walnuts have a sweet, slightly astringent taste, warm properties, and affect the lungs and kidneys. They have the effect of nourishing the liver and kidneys, strengthening the back and knees, reducing asthma, strengthening the kidneys, and consolidating essence.

Doctor Vu said that walnuts are used as a tonic, expectorant, cough remedy, and for people who have coughs, asthma, back pain, and weak legs due to overwork. This fruit is also used as a skin care product, to blacken hair, to promote urination, and to treat hemorrhoids. Walnut oil is used externally to treat burns, eczema, and to dye hair black.

Medicine from walnuts

According to Dr. Vu, walnuts are not only a fruit used for food but are also used as a medicine quite popularly in many countries around the world. Even walnut leaves and shells are also good for health.

In India, people use walnut leaves as an anthelmintic, antiseptic, and to treat herpes and eczema. The fruit is a restorative medicine for rheumatism. In Malaysia, the seed kernels treat stomachaches and dysentery. In Nepal, the juice of young leaves is used to treat worms. In Italy, people use walnut shells soaked in wine to drink to ease digestion.

Below, Dr. Vu introduces some remedies using walnuts:

- Cure cough, insomnia: Walnuts (remove shell), almonds (remove shell), fresh ginger, each 40g, crushed and mixed well, add honey and make into pills the size of corn kernels. Take 1-2 pills every night before going to bed.

- Cure back pain, knee pain: 30g walnut kernel; 100g each of Chinese clematis root and Chinese clematis root. Crush and make into pills. Take 5g each time, 3 times a day.

- Cure back pain, fatigue, impotence, urinary incontinence, painful urination, spermatorrhea: 12g walnut kernel; 10g morinda officinalis; 8g each of Atractylodes Rhizome and Atractylodes Rhizome, decoct and drink one dose per day.

- Treat vaginal discharge in women: Fresh walnut leaves, fried until golden brown, boiled with water (50 g leaves/1 liter), used to wash the vagina.

- Treat painful wounds: Crush walnut kernels, mix with alcohol to drink, and crush fresh leaves or fruit peels and apply externally.

- Cure asthma in the elderly and pee out sand and gravel: Crush walnut kernels, cook porridge and eat regularly.
