Vietnamese lychees are making a strong mark on the global agricultural map with outstanding export growth, especially in high-end markets such as the US, France, UK and Canada.

Lychee exports break through with record growth

According to the General Department of Customs, in the first 6 months of 2025, lychee export turnover reached 45.4 million USD, an increase of 92% over the same period in 2024. In June 2025 alone, this figure reached 35 million USD, more than 3 times higher than in June 2024.

Vietnamese lychees officially on the shelves of Costco America

The year 2025 marks a historic milestone when fresh Vietnamese lychees first appear on the shelves of Costco – the largest retail chain in the US with more than 635 supermarkets across North America. The Golden Lychees brand, representing high-quality lychees from Bac Ninh , is cultivated according to GlobalG.AP standards, meeting US plant quarantine requirements with a sweet taste and characteristic crunchiness.

Dragonberry Produce, a premium agricultural products distributor in the US, is the importer of Vietnamese lychees for the third consecutive year. A company representative said that American consumers highly appreciate the quality of Vietnamese lychees, emphasizing that a sustainable branding strategy is a competitive factor in this market.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that the success of lychee comes from standardizing production and applying advanced harvesting and preservation technology. The irradiation process in Vietnam before exporting by sea helps optimize logistics costs, prolong storage time and maintain freshness.

The area of lychee growing that meets VietGAP and GlobalG.AP standards is increasingly expanding, combining a closed chain from cultivation to consumption, ensuring uniform products, ready to meet the strict requirements of Japan, the US, and the EU.

High fabric prices benefit farmers

In the garden, lychee prices range from VND8,000 to VND20,000 per kilogram, but for export-standard shipments, prices can reach VND25,000 to VND30,000 per kilogram, or even VND35,000 to VND40,000 per kilogram at the beginning of the season. In the international market, retail prices at foreign supermarkets range from VND200,000 to VND300,000 per kilogram, affirming the potential for increased value for Vietnamese agricultural products.

Bac Ninh and Hai Duong , with Thanh Ha lychee specialty, are the two leading localities in lychee production and export. Many growing areas here have been granted official export codes, aiming towards a sustainable development model.

The success of lychee in 2025 is a testament to the resilience of Vietnamese agricultural products when integrating into the global market. From a seasonal fruit, lychee has become a symbol of high-end agricultural products, ready to compete with international rivals.
