After serving his doping suspension in March, Paul Pogba is now available to play again. |
However, the future of the French midfielder remains a big question mark. His goal is clear: to find a suitable club to regain his form and earn a place in the 2026 World Cup – a World Cup that will most likely be Didier Deschamps' last as coach of the French national team.
According to Foot-Mercato , Pogba has been approached by several intermediaries to join AS Monaco – a team looking to strengthen its squad in preparation for next season's Champions League. This is one of the options Monaco is considering, alongside deals for Ansu Fati (currently in negotiations with Barcelona) and Sergio Reguilon.
Meanwhile, the possibility of Pogba joining Marseille – a hot topic in January – has been ruled out because the port city club could not meet his financial demands.
The biggest issue causing Monaco to hesitate is Pogba's fitness. Since September 2, 2023, he hasn't played a single match after testing positive for doping while playing for Juventus. The Turin club subsequently terminated his contract in January 2025, just two months before the suspension was due to end.
Nevertheless, Pogba's appeal remains immense. With his reputation, top-level experience, and desire to return to the national team, he could become a "breakthrough" signing if he regains his form. Coach Deschamps has never closed the door on recalling his former player, and if Pogba performs impressively, a return to the French national team is entirely possible.
Currently, Monaco is cautiously assessing the risks – balancing Pogba's professional potential against concerns about his fitness, salary, and potential impact on the dressing room. Although no final decision has been made, Pogba's return to Ligue 1 is a notable topic in this summer's transfer market.
