>> Yen Bai afforestation increased by 30% over the same period
According to Yen Binh - Luc Yen Forest Protection Department, up to now, the whole district has planted 1,658.5 hectares of newly exploited forest, reaching 63.8% of the yearly plan.
Key tree species such as acacia, cinnamon, linden and tung trees are carefully selected and arranged to suit the soil conditions of each region, contributing to the restoration of forest cover and creating a stable source of income for the people. Forest planting is carried out systematically, from seed preparation, land preparation, to detailed technical guidance for planting households, to ensure a high survival rate and uniform growth of the plants. In addition to large timber forests, Luc Yen also pays special attention to developing non-timber forest products.
The Forest Protection Department has coordinated with Yen Thanh Joint Stock Company and local authorities of communes to support and distribute more than 11,600 Bat Do bamboo shoots to people on an area of 23.21 hectares. This activity aims to gradually form a concentrated bamboo material area, contributing to diversifying products and increasing economic value from forestry. Along with new planting, forest exploitation and regeneration management is also strictly implemented, in compliance with regulations. The output of exploited timber from planted forests reached 52,947 m³, completing 31.15% of the annual plan; the exploitation of non-timber forest products such as bamboo and rattan also reached nearly 13,589 tons, meeting production and consumption needs. Notably, Luc Yen district continues to maintain and effectively promote 310 hectares of forest that have been granted VFSC/PEFC sustainable forest management certificates in Trung Tam commune. This is an important factor helping local forestry products access demanding markets, increase economic value and open up sustainable development opportunities for forest growers.
In the coming time, the Forest Protection Department will continue to closely monitor the locality, support local people with techniques for forest care, and promote the issuance of sustainable forest certification. At the same time, the unit will closely coordinate with departments and localities to effectively implement policies to support forestry development, with special attention to sustainable livelihoods for ethnic minorities and people in mountainous areas.
