In recent days, social networks have shared images of a group of people offering sacrifices at The To Temple (also known as The Mieu - Hue Imperial City), including some teenagers dressed in Nguyen Dynasty costumes. The group also included a ceremonial band from the relic playing music.
The account owner posted the image and content on social media, claiming that this was a ceremony to offer a type of tea called "Thien co tra" to the Immortal Emperors.

The content and images on social networks quickly caused controversy because some people thought the ceremony was organized arbitrarily; the group's costumes were inappropriate in the sacred space of the Temple of Literature.
Regarding this incident, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has responded. According to the Center, on December 8, a group of visitors introducing themselves as the 5th generation descendants of Mr. Nguyen Hiep (a high-ranking mandarin, Minister of War, Chief of Mission, and Governor under King Tu Duc) contacted the service department, hoping to create conditions for the group to come and offer incense to show their respect and gratitude to their ancestors.
Mr. Nguyen Hiep was the one who helped the Nguyen Dynasty establish diplomatic relations with Thailand and assisted in the management of the border areas of Binh Dinh and Phu Yen .
Through the report and consultation of the service department, the Center realized that this was a good action of the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking", showing respect to ancestors, so it agreed and assigned the service department of the Planning - Finance Department to guide the incense offering ceremony for the delegation.
However, due to the urgent time and the weekend, the service department has not yet developed a detailed program to submit to the center's leadership for direction.
At the same time, due to lack of thorough thinking, when implementing the incense offering service department, some shortcomings were encountered.
The Hue Monuments Conservation Center recognized that organizing a welcoming band to add solemnity to the procession was not appropriate.
Regarding clothing, some guests in the group wore inappropriate clothing (these were rented by the guests for taking photos) to offer incense and take photos to post on social media, leading to many comments and opinions that caused outrage.
After the incident, the leaders of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center convened an emergency meeting to reorganize the incense offering service department, and at the same time, criticize and review the individuals involved.
The Hue Monuments Conservation Center said it will take into account feedback and in the coming time, will more closely monitor service activities, especially newly put into operation services.
According to research, The To Mieu is a place of worship for the Nguyen Dynasty kings. This is a solemn place, so it is not allowed to worship or perform rituals arbitrarily.
