Quang Ngai – After four years since the resolution to collect fees was passed but not implemented due to the pandemic, the Ly Son island district government has proposed collecting the fees in 2024.

The draft proposal for charging entrance fees to scenic spots, historical sites, cultural works, and museums in Ly Son was put forward by the Ly Son District People's Committee for comments from departments and units on the afternoon of November 29th.

According to the draft, the entrance fee to scenic spots, historical relics, cultural works, and museums on the main island is 80,000 VND per person per visit. The scenic clusters of Cau Cave, the flagpole, Thoi Loi Mountain, Hang Pagoda, the archway, and Gieng Tien Volcano have an entrance fee of 20,000 VND per cluster. The Hoang Sa and Bac Hai Naval Squadron Exhibition House and the Exhibition House of the largest whale skeleton in Vietnam have an entrance fee of 10,000 VND. The entrance fee to the smaller island is 20,000 VND.

To implement the fee collection, the district authorities will set up ticket booths at Ben Dinh port and counters with staff on duty at tourist attractions.

Children under 6 years old, severely disabled people, residents of Ly Son, officials, civil servants, and members of the armed forces residing in Ly Son or on the mainland who travel to the island for work are exempt from fees.

According to Mr. Le Van Ninh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Ly Son District, in July 2019, the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council issued a resolution stipulating the collection rates, collection methods, management, and use of entrance fees for scenic spots, historical relics, cultural works, and museums on the island district. However, due to the impact of Covid-19, the locality has not yet implemented it. Therefore, the district has coordinated with the Provincial People's Committee to gather opinions and advise them to submit a draft resolution to the Provincial People's Council.

Compared to the previous plan, Ly Son district has added a new entrance fee collection point at the whale skeleton exhibition house, increased the entrance fee to the main island from 70,000 VND to 80,000 VND, and reduced the entrance fee to the small island from 30,000 VND per visit to 20,000 VND per visit.

The fee collection is expected to be implemented in 2024, after approval by the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council. The purpose of collecting the fee is to generate revenue for the locality to restore and preserve historical sites and protect the environment.
