MacBook Air M2 price reduced by several million dong.

Price reductions have boosted sales of the MacBook Air M2 series at many retailers, making it Apple's best-selling laptop model in Vietnam in early 2024.

Two weeks ago, Apple introduced the MacBook Air model using the M3 chip, while simultaneously reducing the list price of the existing MacBook Air M2 models by $100. In Vietnam, many authorized dealers (AARs) quickly adjusted prices downwards by 3 to 5 million VND depending on the model to attract customers.

Specifically, the standard 13-inch MacBook Air M2 (8 GB/256 GB) is priced between 24 million and nearly 25 million VND, about 4 million VND lower than the 15-inch model. At official stores on e-commerce platforms, buyers have the opportunity to own the device at a lower cost if they use discount codes (vouchers) and reduced shipping fees, but they will have to wait for delivery instead of buying it in person.

According to Mr. Nguyen Lac Huy, a representative of the CellphoneS system, after the launch of the MacBook Air M3, Apple adjusted the price of the MacBook Air M2 down by 3 million VND. Notably, Apple has now defaulted to an 8-GPU graphics processor (previously 7 GPUs) for new machines manufactured starting in March 2024.

"With both price reductions and hardware upgrades, this product will certainly attract consumer attention and help retailers increase sales in the coming period," Huy commented, adding that sales at his system have increased 2.5 times since the price reduction.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen The Kha, Commercial Director ofFPT Shop, stated that the MacBook Air M2 is one of Apple's most popular laptop products currently, and also a flagship laptop model sold at the company.

Mr. Kha said: "Through the price adjustment, we expect strong sales growth in the next quarter, because the product now has an attractive price. Especially with the upcoming Back To School period (starting after the summer break in May) when demand is highest."

Meanwhile, the MacBook Air M3, despite being the newest product, has its major changes in the processor chip, while the rest of the design remains the same as its predecessor. The M2 chip is still highly regarded for its power, so retailers don't believe the new device will create a breakthrough when it arrives in Vietnam, especially since the MacBook Air M2 has already had its price reduced.

The 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air M3 models, introduced by Apple on March 4th, are currently available in some major markets. While not yet in Vietnam, some retailers have imported them from Singapore, with suggested retail prices 1 to 3 million VND higher than the listed prices on the Apple Store online.

The new product retains the same design and many of the same dimensions as the model currently using the M2 chip. In the product presentation, Apple did not directly compare the M3 and M2, instead choosing the M1 to highlight the significant difference. Accordingly, the MacBook Air M3 is advertised as being 60% faster than the version using the M1 chip, and 13 times faster than the most powerful Intel-powered MacBook Air currently on the market.

The M3 was the first computer processor manufactured using the 3nm process, but the decision not to compare it to the M2 was both to avoid direct competition with its "older sibling" and to show that the power of the two generations is not so different that it's difficult to compare them side-by-side.

For MacBook Air users, the primary need is for office work, so they generally don't require high-end configurations or the ability to handle demanding tasks like video or image editing, programming, etc. Therefore, many sellers suggest that if you are currently using a MacBook Air with an M1 or Intel processor, you might consider upgrading to an M2 or M3; while if you are using a MacBook Air with an M2 processor, there's no need to upgrade at this time.
