29-year-old athlete Sabastian Sawe, who won the Valencia Marathon last December, finished first with a time of 2 hours 2 minutes 27 seconds.
This is the second fastest winning time in London Marathon history, behind only the late legend Kelvin Kiptum with 2 hours 1 minute 25 seconds set in 2023.
Sabastian Sawe left Jacob Kiplimo (Uganda) - the world record holder for the half marathon - who finished second with a result of 2 hours 3 minutes 37 seconds.
Defending champion Alexander Mutiso Munyao (Kenya) took third place in 2 hours 4 minutes 20 seconds, after surpassing Abdi Nageeye in a thrilling finish. "Living legend" Eliud Kipchoge finished in sixth place in 2 hours 5 minutes 25 seconds.
"I'm very happy to win a big marathon," said Sawe. "I prepared very well for this race, so I feel very comfortable and confident. This success will give me more confidence that there will be more wins in the future."
For the first 60 minutes, the leading group consisted of Kipchoge, Olympic champion Tamirat Tola and Kiplimo. However, as the race entered the 90-minute mark, Kipchoge began to fall behind.
The turning point came shortly after, when his rivals stopped to drink water, Sawe decided not to drink and suddenly accelerated, increasing the gap significantly. Kiplimo, who was caught off guard, tried to catch up but failed and had to accept second place.
From the moment he broke away, Sawe was under no pressure. He looked in good spirits as he crossed the finish line, tearing off the victory ribbon on the Mall, in the shadow of Buckingham Palace.
