A stoppage-time penalty helped Chelsea draw 4-4 with Man City in round 12 of the Premier League on the evening of November 12.
After beating Tottenham 4-1 in the previous round, Chelsea continued to play a spirited game against the defending champions. Despite conceding an early goal after a controversial penalty from Erling Haaland, Mauricio Pochettino's team equalised after just four minutes thanks to a header from Thiago Silva.

Chelsea then took the lead, with Raheem Sterling in the right place to tap in a cross from Reece James. But the hosts could not hold on to their advantage until half-time, with Bernardo Silva's well-placed cross finding Manuel Akanji to head in, leaving Robert Sanchez rooted to the spot.
The chase continued in the second half. Haaland scored his second after diving to meet Julian Alvarez's cross. However, Chelsea's youthful squad were not to be outdone. Conor Gallagher's long-range shot eluded Ederson, allowing Nicolas Jackson to swoop in for the rebound.

Chelsea had a golden opportunity to take the lead for the second time immediately after the goal, but newly-introduced defender Malo Gusto shot over the bar from an open position. The home side missed the chance and were punished by Rodri with four minutes left in the second half. The Spanish midfielder showed he is a player for the big games when his left-footed shot from outside the box deflected off Thiago Silva and into the net.
Chelsea looked destined for defeat, but their efforts were rewarded in stoppage time. Newcomer Armando Broja was brought down in the box by Ruben Dias. From the penalty spot, the 21-year-old fired into the top left corner, fooling Ederson. It was a meaningful goal for Palmer, as it came against his former club, who he left in the summer in search of more playing time.
Despite pulling a point back at the last minute, Pochettino was not happy with the refereeing team. After the final whistle, the Chelsea coach rushed onto the pitch to question referee Taylor and was shown a yellow card. Perhaps the Argentine coach was upset because the referee awarded Man City a penalty for the opening goal. In this situation, the referee judged that Marc Cucurella had pulled Haaland down. But Pochettino objected.

With another point, Chelsea climbed to 10th. They have the same 16 points as Brentford but have a better goal difference. Meanwhile, Man City missed the chance to widen the gap with the group behind. Guardiola's team has 28 points, just one more than Liverpool and Arsenal.
Ahead of Man City is a big match against Liverpool at home in the next round, on November 25. Chelsea also face a big challenge when they visit Newcastle after the national team's concentration period.
