"Defender Nuno Tavares has been called up to the national team on September 4 to replace Diogo Dalot," the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) website announced that Diogo Dalot was forced to leave the national team due to injury.

"The player currently playing for Man Utd complained of muscle pain and was allowed to withdraw by the coaching staff.
"Nuno Tavares, 25, a player for Lazio Roma, will join the national team in Yerevan, traveling from Italy to Armenia this Thursday.
Portugal will start the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on September 6, against Armenia and then against Hungary on September 10, in Budapest (Hungary)," the FPF added.
Diogo Dalot is expected to return to Manchester for further tests on his injury, according to Talksport. The 26-year-old defender started 31 of the Red Devils' 38 league games last season.
But his withdrawal from the national team could not have come at a worse time for coach Ruben Amorim, who is worried about the fitness of several players.
Ahead of next weekend's Manchester derby, Man Utd are concerned about Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount after both players picked up injuries against Burnley.
Cunha is believed to have a hamstring injury while Mason Mount appears to have a muscle injury.

"It's difficult to lose Cunha and Mason Mount, because Mason Mount played 30 minutes despite being injured. I'm worried about that, because they are very important for us. We'll see," coach Amorim expressed about the possibility of missing his star duo in the squad.
After the FIFA Days in September, Man Utd will face a very difficult schedule when they visit Man City and then return to Old Trafford to welcome Chelsea. Coach Amorim's team has only 4 points after 3 rounds, ranking 9th in the Premier League table.
