Le Ngoc Duy is one of 100 artists worldwide to receive the SEED Award 2025 from the Prince Claus Fund (Netherlands).

The SEED Award is a prestigious international award that honors emerging talents and encourages artistic creations related to urgent social and political issues in each locality.

The SEED Award supports artists in implementing experimental art projects related to the community, while creating opportunities for exchange and affirming their names in the international arena. This year, the three Vietnamese artists honored are Hachul Le Do, Bui Bao Tram and Le Ngoc Duy.

Le Ngoc Duy is a filmmaker whose work explores the politics of memory and heritage in central Vietnam. By blending narrative, essay, reenactment, and archival material from his own family and homeland, the 2000-born director’s recent works question the influence of narratives in shaping collective memory.

His latest short film Before the Sea Forgets premiered at the Directors' Fortnight at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Queer Palm.

In addition to the SEED Award, Duy also received production funding from the CJ Short Film Project, was selected to participate in the Locarno Filmmaker Academy 2025 and won the Artist-in-Residence slot at the Kurzfilmtage Residency @ Villa Sträuli program (Winterthur, Switzerland).

His works have been presented at many international film festivals. Among them, his first short film , A Call at the End of the Bed, was selected to participate in the S-Express 2024 program and screened at many film events such as: Kaohsiung Film Festival (Taiwan), ZINEBI International Short Film and Documentary Film Festival (Bilbao, Spain), Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin (France) and Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (Indonesia).

In addition to his filmmaking work, Duy is also interested in building a critical cinema culture in Vietnam.

Le Ngoc Duy shared that the SEED Award 2025 is a valuable recognition for his efforts in pursuing cinema over the years and is a motivation for him to continue working on new film projects.
