Vietnamese women – subjects on par with the new era

Vietnam is standing on the threshold of entering a new era, an era of development, wealth and prosperity. To realize the aspiration of “a hundred years of national founding” in the middle of the 21st century, the entire political system and society are preparing important premises to carry out the great determination of the country. Vietnamese women throughout the history of the nation have always been a shining symbol of sacrifice, dignity, courage, intelligence... increasingly affirming their position worthy of being the owners of Vietnam “developing in a socialist orientation”.

Women - a measure of social development

Revolutions will never be successful without liberating and promoting the role of women - who make up the remaining half of humanity. However, in the history of human society development in many eras and countries, women have not been properly evaluated for their contributions and roles to society. The progress of society is not only seen in terms of productivity, ways of creating wealth... but also must be seen from the recognition, respect and promotion of the role of women.

Charles Fourier (1772 - 1837), a thinker of utopian socialism in the 19th century, once stated: "In a given society, the level of women's liberation is the natural measure of general liberation." Here, according to the author, women's liberation does not stop at the legal recognition of women's equality with men in terms of civil rights, but it is the need to be liberated in terms of their abilities and capacity to contribute to society.

Vietnamese women – the creators of national independence and sovereignty

Vietnam has gone through thousands of years of civilization, in the turning points of the nation's history, there have been important contributions from women. As a matter of course, even though it has gone through a period of thousands of years of feudalism, including a thousand years of domination by the Northern feudalism. But in the ideology of the Vietnamese people from the past until now, women have always been highly respected, which is reflected in the cultural life and language of the Vietnamese people: "motherland" is a concept that can be used as a synonym when talking about the Fatherland; "machine" is a concept used to refer to the most important and decisive factor in an organization or unit; "three coins for a bunch of men/put them in a cage for the ants to carry/three hundred for a woman/bring them home and spread a flowered mat for them to sit on"; the title “Heroic Vietnamese Mother”... However, those honors do not arise from the kindness, or the forced will of men or society... but are the result of the role, dedication, sacrifice and self-development capacity of Vietnamese women through generations.

The contributions, sacrifices and roles of Vietnamese women are immeasurable and incalculable by any expression or form. Within the scope of this article, the author would like to briefly review a few small slices of the contributions of Vietnamese women to the demands of national history:

Perhaps, in the world, there are not many countries where patriotism has become a precious tradition, a mainstream to shape the cultural values ​​of the nation, and the will and spirit of "independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity" has become one of the philosophies to protect the Fatherland "when the enemy comes to our house, even women will fight".

Faced with the invasion of foreign powers from many directions, in many historical periods. Generations of Vietnamese women have stood up with the entire nation to fight and sacrifice to gain and maintain national independence. They (Vietnamese women) could be "Ba Trung", "Ba Trieu"... in the struggle against foreign powers from the North, those whose names have become part of the mountains and rivers of Vietnam, and millions of others who have sacrificed and silently contributed so that their husbands and children could go to the front and suppress their own pain and loss so that the country could be independent and many other families could be reunited.

Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh era also witnessed the important sacrifices, contributions and dedication of Vietnamese women in the struggle to protect the independence and territorial integrity of the Fatherland. They were the ones who contributed to the glorious strength of a "small nation" that bravely defeated "big empires", such as people like People's Armed Forces Hero Ngo Thi Tuyen, who went down in history as a legend, with the feat of carrying an ammunition box heavier than twice her body weight; the steadfast woman Tran Thi Thanh Lich, whose leg was amputated by the enemy three times but still refused to give up; the Labor Hero Nguyen Thi Binh with the strong statement "The Americans can go to the Moon and return safely. As for Vietnam, we are not sure"; the mothers who saw their children off many times without being able to reunite so "mothers' tears no longer exist"; they are many typical children such as Ut Tich in "The Mother Holding a Gun" and Nguyet in "The Last Piece of Moon in the Forest"...

Vietnamese women - the owners of the country's innovation, on par with the nation's rising era

After the country was unified, the country was reunited, and the whole country moved forward to build socialism. Vietnamese women have always devoted their efforts and intelligence to building a new society. In the most difficult times, there were brave women who "broke the barrier" to prove the objective necessity of the renovation in Vietnam. That was Mrs. Ba Thi (Hero of Labor in the renovation period Nguyen Thi Rao), who is known as the "fire-starter" of renovation in Vietnam.

After 40 years of national renovation and 35 years of implementing the Platform for building the country in transition to socialism, Vietnam has gained an unprecedented foundation, potential, position and prestige. The country's current achievements have greatly contributed to the hands, minds and sacrifices of Vietnamese women. Vietnam today is facing a great opportunity, which is the opportunity to realize the aspiration of building a strong and prosperous country in the direction of socialism, but also facing many challenges of the times... requiring the whole society to confront and overcome together. Once again, Vietnamese women are demonstrating their role, position and capacity as subject in the face of opportunities and challenges of the context.

The increasingly popular appearance of typical female faces in the political bureau of the Party and State; the contributions and achievements of women on all fronts such as: Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the renovation period Lieutenant Colonel Le Thi Hang - Director of Center C4 (Viettel Aerospace Institute, Military Industry - Telecommunications Group) participated in research, mastered core technology, contributing to the development of Vietnam's missile industry; Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Mai is just over 30 years old but has owned 31 scientific articles published both domestically and internationally along with a series of highly applicable studies on digital transformation, sustainable development of e-government, mobile commerce, CO2 emission reduction, green logistics; Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thu Huong graduated from Foreign Trade University in 2000, was appointed as the principal of Foreign Trade University (July 1, 2025)...

Son La province today is known as a locality that has overcome the notion of a "sacred forest and poisonous water" to become a bright spot in terms of patriotism, dedication and striving to get rich on its potential and strengths. Although looking at the whole country, today Son La still has many difficulties, but we believe that in this land rich in revolutionary tradition, it will certainly bear many sweet fruits in the future. But that future certainly cannot lack the contribution of the hands, minds and efforts of women. The 16th Son La Provincial Party Congress (term 2025 - 2030) affirmed the position and role of women, when there were 10 comrades participating in the Provincial Party Executive Committee, of which 03 comrades participated in the Provincial Party Standing Committee.

From the above content, we can affirm that: Vietnamese women have developed to the level of subjects building the country in the new era, the era of national growth.
