Amidst the floods, the noble spirit of "military-civilian solidarity and brotherhood" of the Vietnamese people was profoundly and warmly demonstrated, becoming a solid foundation to help people overcome the calamity.
In the fight against natural disasters, the image of soldiers, police officers, and militia members has become a symbol of courage and responsibility. As soon as the floods rose, the 5th Military Region Command, along with the Da Nang City Military and Police Commands, promptly mobilized thousands of officers, soldiers, and vehicles, establishing a forward command post to respond.
They braved the dangers, using canoes, specialized vehicles, or even carrying and lifting people, especially the elderly, children, and the sick, to safe shelters. Thousands of residents and tourists were promptly evacuated from dangerous, deeply flooded, and landslide-prone areas. Engineering units quickly mobilized to landslide-affected areas such as National Highway 40B, clearing debris and fallen trees to reopen the road, ensuring traffic flow for relief efforts and access to isolated areas.
The touching images of soldiers wading through floodwaters to assist families with funerals, using canoes to transport the deceased's coffin to its final resting place, helping people move their belongings, carrying the elderly, children, and tourists to safety; the image of police officers in the mountainous region of Tra Leng delivering hot bowls of instant noodles to the people; and the thousands of gifts sent by police officers from the city to the Northern Quang Nam Regional General Hospital… clearly demonstrate the spirit of "serving the people" of the armed forces.
The solidarity among the people of Da Nang and the entire country was most clearly demonstrated. People proactively helped each other elevate their belongings, provide temporary shelter, and share food and water. The spirit of "mutual support" was shown through practical, simple, yet meaningful actions. Organizations, individuals, philanthropists, and SOS rescue teams from across the country turned their attention to Da Nang, donating cash, necessities, and essential supplies. Instant noodles, drinking water, life jackets... accompanied rescuers through the floods to the people, contributing to a tremendous boost in their morale.
The entire political system of Da Nang is focusing all its efforts on responding to and mitigating the consequences of the natural disaster. Leaders of the Da Nang City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee are directly inspecting and directing response efforts in Hoi An, Tra Leng, the La Son - Tuy Loan Expressway... and other key areas.
Directing the response to flooding in the wards of Hoi An's Old Town on the morning of October 28th, Da Nang City Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang demanded, "Absolutely no unfortunate incidents due to negligence or delays should occur; maximum safety for the people must be ensured, and no one should be trapped or in danger." Functional units were instructed to review and ensure a sufficient supply of essential necessities, including food, clean water, medicine, and other necessary items, to be provided promptly to people in areas that are isolated or deeply flooded.
Healthcare must be prioritized during peak flood periods. Medical facilities need to increase staffing and supplies, and be prepared with first aid plans to handle any outbreaks of disease that may occur after the floods. Under all circumstances, no one should be left hungry, cold, or without access to healthcare. This is also the political and humanitarian responsibility of the entire political system of the city.
Local authorities are committed to ensuring that no one left homeless due to floods is forced to live in the open air. They are implementing a plan to support the construction of new homes for households affected by landslides, helping people to quickly stabilize their lives and restore production after the floods.
In times of hardship and difficulty, the decisive involvement of the entire political system, the deep affection between the military and the people, and the mutual support of people nationwide have become the driving force for the people of Da Nang to overcome challenges and uphold the humanitarian spirit of the Vietnamese nation. This is a solid foundation for Da Nang and the entire country to always be ready to respond to and overcome natural disasters as well as other challenges in the future.
