Mazda CX-80 is about to launch in Malaysia, 3-row SUV is bigger than CX-60

Mazda has just confirmed that it will soon launch the 2025 CX-80 model in the Southeast Asian market, specifically Malaysia, with a higher price than its "brother" CX-60.

The 2025 Mazda CX-80 three-row SUV was showcased at last year's KLIMS exhibition and will be officially launched globally in April 2024. The vehicle belongs to Mazda's premium product group, developed on the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture platform with a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration.

The Mazda CX-80 SUV measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, 1,710 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,120 mm. Compared to the CX-60, the car is 250 mm longer, 24 mm higher and especially the wheelbase is also 250 mm longer. This makes the CX-80 more spacious than both the CX-8 and CX-9 currently sold in Malaysia, which only have a wheelbase of 2,930 mm.

In terms of design, the Mazda CX-80 e-Skyactiv PHEV shares many similarities with its “younger brother” the CX-60, including the entire front end. However, the wheelbase and rear end from the rear axle to the rear bumper are longer...

The size makes this SUV look imposing, similar to the CX-70 and CX-90 currently distributed in North America. The CX-80's taillights still have the same design as the CX-60, but the rear bumper and trunk have been redesigned.

The Mazda CX-80 is available with a three-row interior configuration, with the option of seating for six or seven. The second row can be configured with a trio of standard seats or two captain's chairs combined with a center console or an aisle to the third row.

The third row of seats can be folded completely flat, expanding the cargo area when not in use. The car is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital dashboard, a 12.3-inch central touch screen, supporting wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity and a HUD screen.

The driver can also set up 6 different personal profiles that allow for customizing the seating position and optimal viewing angle on the CX-80, along with the Entry Assist function to facilitate easy entry and exit.

The standard version of the car is equipped with the e-Skyactiv D hybrid powertrain, with a 3.3L 6-cylinder diesel engine, 251 horsepower and 550Nm of torque. Mazda's 48V M Hybrid Boost mild-hybrid system helps ensure the car's "green" factor. This powertrain comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive.

The higher version is equipped with the e-Skyactiv PHEV plug-in hybrid system, with a capacity of 323 horsepower and 500Nm of torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds. This system includes a 2.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine combined with an electric motor and a 17.8kWh battery pack, giving the car the ability to run 60km purely on electricity.

The 2025 Mazda CX-80 has safety features such as adaptive LED headlights, smart brake assist, rear cross-traffic alert, driver attention warning, driver monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. In addition, there is a 360-degree camera and an intelligent driving mode selection system.

When purchasing this model, customers can choose exterior paint colors such as Jet Black, Platinum Quartz, Deep Crystal Blue, Melting Copper, Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Rhodium White and Artisan Red.

It is expected that the Mazda CX-80 in Malaysia will have a higher price than the CX-60 (about 1.25 billion VND) due to its larger size, although the exterior and interior design are still quite similar. When coming to Vietnam, the CX-80 will be a new competitor for the Hyundai Palisade, Ford Explorer and Volkswagen Teramont.
