According to L'Équipe (France), Mbappe started feeling tired on June 14, when Real Madrid flew from Spain to Miami to participate in the tournament. The 26-year-old player suffered from dehydration and was later diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, the cause of which is believed to be bacteria found in poultry meat.

Mbappe was hospitalised after the opening group game against Al Hilal and missed the next four games. He was given intravenous fluids and tests revealed that his condition was caused by a bacteria commonly found in unsanitary food.
Despite returning to action and scoring a spectacular bicycle kick in the quarter-final win over Dortmund, Mbappe’s fitness has yet to fully recover. There are still big questions about his ability to play in the semi-final against PSG at 2am on July 10 at MetLife Stadium (USA).
L'Équipe further revealed that the French striker has lost up to 6kg since the onset of the disease. For a professional athlete, such unplanned weight loss can seriously affect the ability to compete.
Real Madrid are really worried about the impact of the tight schedule on the players' fitness after the FIFA Club World Cup. They have sent a petition to La Liga to postpone the opening match against Osasuna (scheduled for August 19).
