U23 Indonesia suffered a big shock, at risk of losing ticket to Asian tournament

(Dan Tri) - U23 Indonesia suffered a big shock when they were held to a 0-0 draw by U23 Laos. This result could cause the team from the archipelago to miss the Asian tournament.

In the qualifying round of the U23 Asian Cup, U23 Indonesia is the host but they have to share the same group with U23 Korea. Therefore, they must win against U23 Laos if they want to compete for a ticket to the final round. Only the group winner and 4/11 best second-placed teams will get tickets.

However, coach Gerald Vanenburg's team was a huge disappointment when they were held to a 0-0 draw by the much weaker U23 Laos team. This result puts the team from the archipelago at great risk of missing out on the Asian tournament. They are currently ranked second in Group J with 1 point, 2 points behind U23 Korea. In the previous match, the team from Kim Chi won 5-0 against U23 Macau.

Entering this match, U23 Indonesia took the field with the naturalized striker duo Jens Raven and Rafael Struick. Of which, Jens Raven recently won the title of Top Scorer of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.

However, the irony is that the very strong attack of U23 Indonesia was powerless against U23 Laos. Right in the 6th minute, the home team Indonesia put the ball into the opponent's net but the referee denied this goal because he thought Jens Raven was in an offside position.

For most of the time after that, U23 Indonesia only played in the U23 Laos field. However, despite trying everything, the young Indonesian strikers still could not put the ball into the opponent's net. Goalkeeper Kop Lokphathip of U23 Laos deserves to receive praise for a series of excellent saves.

The match ended with a score of 0-0. In the second match, they will face U23 Macau at 7:30 p.m. on September 6. After that, U23 Indonesia will face U23 Korea in the decisive match on September 9. If they cannot beat U23 Korea, U23 Indonesia will not be sure to enter the group of 4 best second-placed teams.
