Liverpool cheated in Isak deal?

During Liverpool's 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on 23 October, Isak had to leave the field in the first half due to discomfort in the groin area.

The Swedish striker's form has been questioned since he joined Liverpool.

Isak started alongside Hugo Ekitike in the trip to Germany, but lasted just 45 minutes before being replaced by Federico Chiesa early in the second half. Coach Arne Slot confirmed after the match that the Swede had a groin problem, but he hoped it was not a serious injury.

However, Isak's history of recurring groin injuries, which saw him miss 12 games in the 2023/24 season and two last season, has raised concerns about his longevity. The Times quoted a Newcastle source as saying the issue had been identified by the Magpies' medical team, with concerns that Isak might not be able to maintain his peak form for long.

This further raises the question of Newcastle "playing tricks" with Liverpool, when raising the price in the £130 million transfer deal last summer. Some Newcastle fans even likened the deal to selling a car for a high price just before the engine fails - a smart move by the team.

Liverpool's medical staff are now concerned that Isak could suffer a recurrence of the injury if the club do not carefully manage his recovery. Isak, the Premier League's record signing, has yet to find his best form since moving to Anfield, scoring just one goal in the Carabao Cup. His continued fitness issues, combined with his failure to fully participate in pre-season, are worrying Liverpool fans.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's board believe that selling Isak for a high price is considered a wise decision for them, especially when the team has used this money to strengthen the squad and avoid the risk of his injury.
